Steve and Lorna gallavanting around the world
Hi Everyone,
Finally we have found an internet cafe... slow but okay. Not many around understandably being in the bush!
We began our 42 day overland trip on the 30th October and left Kenya on that day. Into Tanzania - easy border crossing and boy is it HOT!
The truck drive has been fun - no windows.... plastic ones that roll up and down.. so a tad windy at times ( I dont think I have had such bad ly knotted hair ever!!!)
We drove into Arusha - passed through very similar landscape as Kenya. It is very very dry at the moment & so dusty.
Running short of time so will just list a few key things we have experienced so far: (It has been awsome!!)
* Stayed in snake park - very very cool bar!
* First excursion was by 4X4's to the Ngorongora Crater and the Serengetti.
* The Serengetti is beautiful. Vast open plains and can see for miles!!!
We stayed in the reserve (with the animals!!) camped in the centre. And yup we were even visted by a great BIG male LION!!! Yes our hearts were racing!!! But he was just visiting for water and luckly we had a Masaai Warrior who protected us and pointed out the large feline!
We had a fab game drive and saw the following: Hippos, Crocs, 17 LIONS pass infront of our 4X4!!!! Amazing and so close
A Cheetah kill a gazelle!!! WOW - poor little buck though!
A herd of Elephants.. close too
A leopard!!!!
Zebras.. there are many!
Great birds too
Next day we closed camp and moved to the Ngorongora crater which used to be a volcano that collapsed millions of years ago and is now a sanctuary for the wildlife. We camped on the ridge of the crater (it was bitterly cold that night!)
We had a morning drive and finished off our big 5 game viewing. We saw a Rhino!! (So we have seen: Lion, Buffallo, leopard, Rhino, Elephant)
We also saw flamingos on the soda lake. What beautiful birds!!!
We then had a late afternoon drive back to Arusha - snake park camp site. Were we had a Braai (BBQ) and many (maybe one too many) drinks!
we are on the road now onto Dar Es Saalam. ( there maybe a change of plans for Zanzibar.. pending the riots!!!)
Will email in a few days - pictures will be loaded up shortly too!!!
Lots of love to you all!
Lorna and Steve
