Steve and Lorna gallavanting around the world
BOTSWANA
We left half of our truck in Vic Falls as there trip was over. Lorna and I were in it for the long haul down to Cape Town. It was much quieter and roomy with only 13 people! Very strange too.
At last a FREE border crossing, even for us Brits!
Our first stop in Botswana was the Chobe National Park. This was cool as we were on a flat boat. We got extremely close and personal with many elephant, hippos, crocs, a huge iguana and many other animals. As the sun went down it was one of the best African sunsets we had seen! Beautiful.
The next day we drove West to Maun, our base camp before entering the Okavango Delta. We had a little scare as Lorna thought she may have Malaria but luckily it was a false alarm!
The Okavango Delta is a huge expanse of water, which has travelled from the Angolan Highlands, spreading out to form the largest inland Delta in the World! In the Delta we were poled through winding waterways in a Mokoro (a dug out canoe) for 2 hours to our camp. Our poler was called Oscar, a cool dude in a pink hat that like to sing. 'in the Delta the mighty Delta the lion sleeps tonight'.
Our camp was pitched right in the middle of the Delta, in the middle of nowhere. We had to dig a toilet, it really was like I'm a celebrity get me out of here... The Delta was cool, we did a few game walks on foot! Didn't see too much, a few Giraffe, Zebra, oh and a Leopard (tortoise)...hmmm The whole experience was very cool. We had a Hippo enter our camp in the middle of the night, pretty scary stuff. And an elephant that seemed to like us...?
3 days later we were Mokoro'd back to civilisation where we made our way South to Namibia...
