Hope everyone had a great Christmas and I wish you all a very happy new year!!!
It has been soooo wierd for me and Alex. We woke up on Christmas morning- lost. We didn't know what to do with ourselves. So, we got up really early; put on our Christmas jumpers and knitted balaclavas and exchanged gifts with each other by the Christmas tree - oh, and then we sang Christmas songs by the piano. Narrrr, not really, we stayed in bed and cried! Thinkin about how good a time you lot are havin back home! Aaaanyway, when we did eventually get up and got through the awkward 'I haven't got you a present' - 'oh, I haven't got you one either' moment - we met up with three of our friends that were also staying in Cape Town over Christmas. We all met up at the Waterfront, did some shopping and eating and looked around - it was really really busy - it didn't seem like Christmas day.
Later that day we said goodbye to Seaton, an aussie guy who was flying out to London that evening and that made us really home sick - knowing he was going to England and then going home. On top of that we had our other friends Laura (a Canadian) and Sabrina (Swiss) over at our place for a BBQ - that was our Christmas dinner! and they were talking about their flights home in the next few days and how they were looking forward to going home. All that, on top of the downer we were on at the end of our Africa tour just didn't put me and Alex in the right frame of mind to really enjoy Cape Town.
That's why we've made an executive decision to leave this continent and move to another. WE'RE GOING TO AUSTRALIA TOMORROW!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!!! We are so happy, we called the airline, got our flights changed, booked a connecting flight to Johannesburg airport, booked our accommodation in Perth and now we've booked it, packed it and ready to f*** off!
We haven't really felt safe in Cape Town either - it's well dodgy in some places. On every corner there's a tramp or three, on the news we see stories of shootings and deaths in Durban, a body of a tourist was found in Port Elizabeth and even our Friend Laura, when she was in Johannesburg had a knife to her throat! Naaarrrr, we don't fancy any of that! So it's a shame we're gonna miss out on the Garden Route but we've seen some absolutely beautiful places in Africa and we are ready for the next part of our holiday!
I Know that sounds really bad, but Cape Town isn't all bad - in fact some places are really nice! On the day we arrived we did a township tour and walked round one of the townships (shanty towns) on the outskirts of Cape Town. Historically, where all the blacks were forced to move to when the whites took over. And what a surprise! Everyone that we met there couldn't have been any friendlier! We stopped off for lunch in the township somewhere at this outside bar place where everyone wa eating the biggest chops and steaks you've ever seen it wa all just piled up and people dived in and helped themselves while in the background DJ Spoony wa knockin out some bangin tunes- well trendy!. Oh, and there was this absolutely pissed up, stoned up, drugged up black african woman dancing round us - she was well funny - we had a laugh dancing wi her! So that was pretty cool - hangin about wi me homies!
I also went half way up Table Mountain (or Table Top Mountain) as Alex likes to call it. I went on my own to get some space on my own for a bit. I had every intention of spending some time up the top there, but there was a dangerous wind and they had stopped the cable cars, on top of that - they were practically queing round the pigging thing to get up! But it was still nice! We also tried to get on a boat to Robben Island but they were all booked up until the middle of January! So I bought a book on Nelson Mandela, left it in a cafe, then went and bought another one! So it'll give me summat to read while I'm on my way to AUSTRALIA!!!!!!
We have really, really enjoyed Africa so so so so much, it was far more than what we expected, although I don't really know what I was expecting! But the people, the landscape, the culture of the place. The people we met, the friends we've made, the sights we've seen - the drink we've drunk!!!!!!!!!!! It has been a fantastic six/seven weeks. I don't really know what my highlight has been - it could be the game viewing, the scenery, the people, the skydive, the white water rafting, the quad biking, paradise of Zanzibar, the Booze Cruise, Alex in the hospital!! I really couldn't choose! But I hope the rest of the year will be as exciting! And Alex, if you read this - It's been pretty good with you too - you've given me some laughs kidda!
Right, that's it - I'm off - I've gotta practice me aussie slang 'rack off' - Have a great new year everyone - please keep in touch!
