Steph and Stevens travels!
Hello people,
We have had an action packed time since Kaikoura! We travelled to Wellington on Thursday. It was quite good because we got to go on a ferry crossing to the North Island which took 3 hours!!!! After arriving we checked in and had a drink and game of pool in the bar until tea time. We had a lovely tea at a restaurant and then we had another drink before bed.
An 8am start on Friday so that we could travel to River Valley. We got dropped off at about 12 in Taihape and then a shuttle from River Valley picked us up to take us there. After Fat Dad ran his errands we went to River Valley which is about a half an hour drive! It is a beautiful place, nice big open fire (which they never turned on) and lovely sofa's. We were hoping to white water raft here because it is grade 5 and one of if not the best place to raft in the world. Unfortunately on Saturday morning there was only 3 of us so there wasn't enough of us to go out. So we had to wait for the next bus load to come in which was in the afternoon. It then rained lots - meaning the river flooded :( We sat on the sofa's all saturday morning waiting for it to stop raining. It didn't so we went to do the flying fox. This is a 1km (the biggest in the world) zip line through a canyon. Its starts at 180m high and you go at 100mph. You are suspended on your stomach facing down into the canyon. It was awesome - you can't see them pulling the cord to let you go so it is pretty scary not knowing when you are suddenly going to be sent towards the water below. As we went through the air, the rain hitting your face felt like hail stones but it was still ace! It then rained all day sunday which we loved, so another day of sitting, reading, doing crosswords, playing cards and eating roasts. Let us explain about the roasts. Steph was dying for a roast before we got there, so we signed up for it the first night. But when we found out that is all they serve at tea time, so we wished we had stocked up on food before, I don't think Steph is dying for a roast now after 4 roast dinners in a row lol! Monday was a gorgeous day, but still we had to wait for the river to come down, it started off well but then decided it wanted to slow right down, meaning no rafting on monday. So we went to play golf on their 9 hole pitch and putt, Steph got bored after hitting it twice and went back lol.
We woke up this morning to see that it was another sunny day. Once again though, the river was too high and dangerous to raft on. So we came to the decision that we would leave when the bus came today. It is going to rain hard again, meaning the river would flood even more and we would have to wait another week to do it. We are going to do it in Rotorua instead - it is still a grade 5 so it still will be good! Fingers crossed for the weather tomorrow morning as we are hopefully skydiving. We have a fun packed afternoon here to come, food shopping, laundry and then an early night before our skydive!
