Steph and Stevens travels!
Hi everyone!
Yesterday we travelled to Lake Mahinapua stopping several times along the way. We started with a coastal walk which we did in the pouring rain. We did see a big seal colony though with about 50 or more seals which was cool - they were all sat on the rocks and some were playing in the huge waves! We then did another walk which took us right down the the sea where the waves were absolutely massive. After lunch we took a walk to the pancake rocks which were rocks that looked like stacks of pancakes (apparently!) and saw more big waves. Our accommodation for last night was in the middle of nowhere and was run by the oldest publican in New Zealand (he was 80), a man called Les. He was very funny! We had a very good tea because Les and our bus driver cooked everyone steak, potatoes, venison, pasta etc which was yummy! After tea we had a fancy dress night in the pub which is cool because the kiwi experience has been going there for 15 years and the walls are covered in poloroids of past bus groups (3 1/2 thousand pictures!) and there is also hats all over the ceiling which people have donated. We had to dress up as something beginning with the first letter of your Christian name so I was a sheriff and Steven was a soldier complete with green face paint!
Today we have travelled to Franz Josef glacier again stopping along the way. We stopped at the bushmans center on the way which was cool - it had the biggest pig I have ever seen in my life along with eels (which they fed with a dead mouse) and a possom which we could feed. When we arrived at Franz Josef we checked in for our activities tomorrow and then did a short walk to a lookout where we can see the glacier which was a stunning view! Tomorrow we are doing an 8 hour hike up the glacier so and early night for us!
Love Steph and Steven xx
