Claire and I are in Dalat now - it's in the Central Highlands - the coldest place yet!! It's really funny - all the Vietnemese people here are wearing wooly hats and big coats!! We're walking around in T-Shirts - I think they must think we're mad!! Dalat is a Vietnemese tourist destinaton - so there are very few Westerners here. It's a really big town in the hills - famous for fruit and vegetable farms, a mini Eiffel Tower and being quite tacky!! it's not too bad though.
Today we walked to the Dalat cog railway station - the line doesn't go anywhere useful, but it was nice to see the station. We then went up to a place called the Valley of Love!! (lots of couples come to Dalat). we'd heard that it was amazingly tacky, but we were sadly disappointed by it (well Claire was - she wanted it to be really tacky)! It was quite nice - some good views from the hills and a large lake i the valley (with giant swans) - quite picturesque! We did a horse ride round the lake which was funny - got ripped off and they wanted a tip!! obviously i toldthem there was noway they deserved a tip - especially since they didn't do anything and they didn't speak english! (obviously i mean the handlers, not the horses)
We're staying at a nice hotel which has a shower cubicle in the bathroom!!(usually they're wet rooms) this has greatly excited Claire - I think it's probably the only cubicle we'll see whilst travelling (it's certainly the only one I've seen!) and we get a rather impressive buffet breakfast too!! All for $7.50 each! and fresh towels and free internet and a balcony! Bargain!
Tomorrow we're off to climb a mountain (it's called "mountain" something, but I think "big hill" might be more appropriate) we were going to cycle to it, but not sure if i can persuade claire to get on a bike. might meet her there - she can get a moto there!
