Arrived in Kanchanaburi safely this afternoon - journey was trouble free. River trip yesterday was good - saw lots of the canals and houses on sticks and people washing in the river with bars of soap!! Went to Ko kret island where they make lots of pottery - was interesting and then went to a dessert making place on the river - bit too sweet for my liking. Also Fed Cat fish. Met some interesting travellers on the trip - one man recommended a place to eat tonight in Kanchanaburi - so I'll see what it's like in a bit! He was helpful about Cambodia and Ko Tao too. Spent the afternoon today in the Burma-Thailand Railway museum. Kanchanaburi is the place that I read the book about (Bridge over the River Kwai).Museum was all about the POW camps and how the bridge was constructed - was harrowing and quite moving at times - the japanese did some terrible things!! Makes me quite sick that anyone could behave in that way. Went to see the war cemetaries afterwards. Just been for a walk up the river to the bridge and walked across it (will upload photos when i get to a faster internet place). Oh!! And saw a real baby elephant!! I was about a metre away from it!! Got stopped by the police when I was there and they asked if i would pose for some photos for them!! Very bizarre, anyway after making sure they were police (and checking that I didn't have to remove any clothes!!) I agreed and they took me to the police office. I had to pretend I'd had my purse stolen whilst they took photos of me with one of the officers - was very funny - i laughed a lot (trying to look serious though!) they said the photos were for their notice board to demostrate the work they do with tourists (i must look like a typical tourist!!) I'm famous in the Kanchanaburi police department now!! And there will be a picture of me in the town!! Ha ha!! So if any of you visit, make sure you go to the poilce office near the bridge because there'll be a gorgeous photo of me looking worried because my purse has been stolen!! Am staying at a pretty guesthous eon the river called the Jolly Frog - they only had double rooms left so I'm paying more than I wanted , but hopefully they'll move me tomorrow. Off to the Erawan Falls tomorrow in the national park (if i manage to get there!) taking my bikini - might swin in them like the Timote Advert!!
