Headed south to Tulum for my last two nights in the Mexico. We stayed a place called Paypaya Playa in little huts (cabanas) perched on the rocky foreshore just about an amazing white sand beach. The huts had walls made out of lose fitting sticks and a thatched roof, the bed in the middle had a mosquito net to keep out the nasties as the stick walls had large gaps to allow cooling by sea breeze. The site also had outdoor showers and toilets it was an experience! Spent the majority of the two days at Tulum rotating between the beach and the shady bar at the hotel as it was bloody hot. It was good to spend two days like this just chilling after the last 15 or so days of travelling and site seeing.
The only deviation from the swim/sleep program was the second morning at Tulum we went to the Mayan ruins which were right on the coast about 3km from where we were staying. The archetecture of these structures was pretty uninspiring compared to what I have seen but what made the site was that it is sat right on the coast, the stark grey of the stone made a spectecular constrast with the blue of the water, green of the palms and the white of the clouds that hovered around.
The new group is pretty small, six, with all but one having kids that are older than me......
