Went to see Perito Moreno glacier which was amazing....had some scotch with glacial ice which was neat. Unfortunately it was raining all day and due to a wardrobe malfunction I got a really wet bottom half. [We walked on the glacier with crampons which was cool, but because of the rain could have been better. On a sunny day the effect of the sun shining through the ice on the glacier would have been unbelievable]
Back in Argentina have moved to the northern end of Los Glacier's National Park (El Chaten) walks in the Fitz Roy Mountain area - stunning views of mountain glaciers, jagged peaks and amazing glacier lakes. I'll say at the start that it was one of the coolest places I've ever been for hiking and chiling out.
Got a bit sick of the pace of our group and managed to break away and do a bit of 'off-piste' walking and knock off a few minor summits in the park between the 1,000 and 2,000m mark - all the bigger ones are climbing peaks. Once again the views were magic! [There's not much more to say about these walks without simply listing a bunch of superlatives. Look at the pictures to see how fantastic the views are]
It was nice we were staying in a walk-in-walk-out town as we could allow the decadance of eating one Argintinian steak a day to continue.......though not the 'best' steaks we've had they were still good! 600g of prime beef for less than $12US - this is not a land for girly men! [so Ben felt a bit out of place] - says Rob with his girly-man beard!!!
Besides the steak we found another innovation in Argentina that is very manly, a 500mL beer bottle with a wide diameter mouth (~1 inch) on it, I guess so you can ' slam it down fast'. This will hopefully become standard issue in the rest of the civilised world. [we have extensively tested this innovation and declare it safe for Australian consumption]
