Welcome to Milwaukee! The ride from Port Washington to Milwaukee was flat and uneventful, just the way we like it. We arrived at McKinley Marina earlier than we had planned on, and had to wait on the fuel dock for our slip. McKinley has an odd check in procedure, you tie up at the fuel dock, check and get your slip assignment, then you go to your slip. I think they do this because the marina is so large, depending on your slip assignment it could be over a mile walk to the office.
Milwaukee is a very bike friendly town, with both bike paths and well marked bike lanes in the roads.
Milwaukee was the home to Pabst Blue Ribbon beer, and while we here, we toured what was once the Pabst Brewery. The brewery closed in 1996, and sat vacant until 2001, when Jim Haertal purchased the property. Jim sold part of the complex but retained the office complex. The Best Place now offer PBR History tours, and well as spaces for party rentals. The tour was fun and educational. Scott our tour guide has been involved with Best Place since it was purchased in 2001. He was one of the best tour guides we have come across on our trip.
After leaving the brewery tour, we headed to Craft Standard Distillery. We had planned on getting appetizer's and a drink, but found out the kitchen was closed. We also found out, that they had only been open for 15 days. The drinks were good, but they are still working the kinks out. In time I think they will be a great place to go to.
Our second day here we toured the Harley Davidson Museum. Once again we arrived a day to early, they are having their annual Home Town Rally starting tomorrow. Also on Saturday's they offer demo rides on Harley's. Timing is everything and sometimes the timing is just a little off!
After the Harley Davidson museum we heading to a local casino for a little gambling. It was a pretty good size casino, but they only had slot machines. After donating some money, we tried to head out to lunch. I am not sure if the casino has influence over Google Maps or what, but Google Maps did not want us to find the restaurant we picked for lunch. First it took us down a road, that turned into a gravel road, that ended up being a dead end, between a railroad yard and a truck yard. Then when we backtracked, it just wanted us to keep circling around the casino looking for a bridge over the river that did not exist. It was very amusing.
We were supposed to leave Milwaukee on Wednesday morning, but there was a small craft advisory. The predictions were for seas 3'-6', with an occasional 8'. No thank you, we were staying here. We spent the day bike riding and grocery shopping.
Our next stop is Racine, WI.
