GO PACK GO, Welcome Green Bay. First what was supposed to be a five day stop, has turned into a seven day stop. But we have no control over the weather. The plan was to leave here on Saturday morning, but the forecast was calling for up to three foot seas. Sunday was even worse.
Green Bay has been incredible, other than the marina being 1.5 miles away from anything it has been a great stay. Tuesday we did a little exploring, mainly looking for the post office and for things to do.
Wednesday we toured Lambeau Field the home of the Green Bay Packers. Even though we are not big football fans, the stadium and the tour were great. Green Bay fans are as passionate as Eagle's fan if not more so. During the tour, we got to go through the Players Tunnel out to the field. We also got to see the VIP boxes, the premium seating, and the end zone loft right below the score board.
While we were out we also visited the National Train Museum, it was cool, but not as cool as Lambeau Field.
Thursday we toured the Botanical Gardens with Steve and Jane (Sabbatical). They had a car so we were able to go shopping and get some of the heavier stuff we needed. Like cases of water!
Friday we went back out on our bikes to more local attractions. We started out at the Bay Shore Nature Preserve, then we went to the Bay Shore Amusement Park. It is an old school amusement park, that is free to enter, and the rides cost between 25 cents and a dollar to ride. Lunch at the park was a whopping $13 for the two of us.
Friday Night we took the dinghy's (Sabbatical and us) up the Fox River to go out to dinner. It was quicker, easier and more fun than taking the bikes into town. Coming back from dinner, we had to race a 600 foot freighter through the Main Street Draw bridge. Steve beat the freighter, and I had to go behind the bridge tender's building. There was no way I was going through the bridge with the freighter.
Since we could not leave Saturday because of the forecast, Angel and I were going to go to a museum downtown. As we rode along the river we could see vendors lining the path along the river. There was a Rock The Dock festival with live music all day. That was more fun than a museum. We also found out that they were having Hot Air Balloon Display at sunset. They balloons were going to be tethered to the ground and the burners make them glow in the dark. So after enjoying Rock The Dock for the afternoon, we came back at night by dinghy with Steve and Jane on the dinghy's. We were twenty feet away as they inflated the balloons. The wind was too much for the balloons, and within minutes of the filling up, they were coming back down, right on top of us.
Sunday we made it to the Neville Museum that we were heading to when we found Rock the Dock. It is a small museum with a focus on Wisconsin history. After the museum we rode our bike along the Fox River Bike Trail. We went to the De Pere Lock which is the first of seventeen locks on the Fox River. All of the locks on the Fox are hand operated locks. The lock operators hand turn the cranks to open and close both the valves and gates in the locks. We ended up riding over 20 miles, it was a fun day.
Tomorrow's forecast look very good for leaving Green Bay and heading to Sturgeon Bay.
