Another lazy morning leaving Chesapeake City. We wanted to wait for high tide to leave the dock. Yesterday when we came in it we ran into some very shallow water and there was no rush to leave. At least from our perspective there was not. The sailboat that wanted our slip thought differently, but he had to wait.
We could have gone from Chesapeake City directly to Bordentown, but by going to Delaware City, it sets us up to leave with the incoming tide the entire trip up the river. With the following tide, it will cut our fuel consumption by about 20%.
Delaware City is our 161st
stop and it was also our first stop. It was 371 days ago we came here with 3 other boats and countless friends from our yacht club to start our adventure. It is also where we first met Mark & Karen (Kay Dee). After our friends from the yacht club left to go home, Karen invited us to lunch with a bunch of other loopers. Who knew what good friends we would become, and we would both be back here one year later. Pulling onto the dock at Delaware City, it is really hitting me that our adventure is almost to an end. What an adventure it has been.
As Charlie helped us dock, Tim the owner of Delaware City Marina came to greet us. Tim and I go back a long way, I have been coming here for 20 years and it has been great every time I have been here. While we were checking in, I looked up and there was Paul (Loop Princess). We first met Paul and Beverly here last year at Delaware City. Paul finished his loop last year, and the last time we saw him was at his home marina in Gulf Shores Alabama. Paul is now doing boat deliveries and selling boats. He was here with a buyer do a pre-purchase inspection of a boat.
One of the benefits of coming to Delaware City, is every day at 4PM m gives a briefing on traveling the Delaware Bay. From Delaware City to Cape May is 45 nautical miles down the bay. Depending on the wind and current the bay can either be a beautiful ride or the ride from hell. Tim will never tell boaters to go or not to go, but he does a great job of explaining what conditions you might expect to see. Even though we are going up the river not down the bay, we stopped in for the briefing just to say high to the loopers that were there.
It is bitter sweet to say that our next and final stop is Bordentown Yacht Club. We will be leaving around 10am, for a 7 hour trip up the river.
