We had a great day for the final leg of our adventure. It was cloudy but there was no rain. It was a long run to go from Delaware City to Bordentown in one day, but having the tide push us up river the entire way was worth it. As we came up the river and passed under the all too familiar Delaware Memorial, Commodore Barry and Ben Franklin bridges, it really hit home that this trip is really coming to an end. It was exciting to point out everything to Mark & Karen (Kay Dee). Radio calls of "Mark, this is where we dock to go out to eat", "Mark this is where we hang out in the cove" and "Mark you can dock here really quick to get an ice cream" I am sure that by the time we got to Bordentown they wanted to shut their radio off. The Delaware River may not compare to some of the places we went to on this trip it still has a lot to offer boaters.
When we arrived at BYC we were greeted by lots of friends and a great party. We want to thank everyone that came out to welcome us back, and a special thank you to those that made the party happen. Crossing our wake and changing our burgee from white to gold was an incredible feeling. (Loopers fly a white burgee (a flag bearing the colors or emblem of a sailing club, typically triangular) during their first loop. When loopers cross their wake (Return to their home port) they replace their white burgee with a gold burgee.)
Our trip may be over but our "Great Loop Experience" is not over yet. Mark & Karen will be staying at our yacht club with us for a week. We will be showing them around New Jersey and Philadelphia.
Our trip is over but our memories will last a life time. Angel and I are already planning what our next great cruise will be. We will spend this summer on the Delaware River and Chesapeake Bay. Next summer we plan to head north into Canada and explore the Trent Severn Canal and Georgian Bay. Because the US/Canadian Border was closed due to Covid we could not get there this trip.
Here are some quick stats on our trip.
