We left Laos and went to Ubon Ratchathani where we would catch the overnight train to Bangkok. The flooding situation was horrific here, entire neighbourhoods were wiped out and people had camped by the highway to earn a stay of survival, using metal sheets as shelter. My stay in Bangkok was short, opting for the first flight out to Krabi, with the threat of flooding becoming very real in the capital. Turns out this was a good call as just a week last some parts of Bangkok are thought to be 10feet under water... 10 feet!! Most bizarrely, people had made concrete walls around temples to protect them, what about the hospitals and people themselves? Anyway moving swiftly along, me and a kiwi girl called Sue who was on te Laos tour went to Krabi (for my second time) and we took a boat to the gorgeous Railay beach. I had met a Dutch guy called Braam who was an interesting character and he also spent the day at Railay with us. Onto Phi Phi, the Island where they filmed The Beach! Me and sue met this Canadian couple called Chase and Nicole, and we all went on a snorkelling and kayak tour around the islands. This was incredible. To complete my detoxing of Laos, I went to Koh Lanta with two English girls called Esther and Jade, rented a motorbike for 3 days and saw some pretty cool sights including baby elephants and waterfalls. I am now back in Krabi for a 3rd time before I set off for Malaysia!
