New day + new country = new adventure! I woke up early and Brent, Samantha and Sashe (who I had previously met in Chiang Mai) joined me for my last Thai meal before I set off on the mini bus to Malaysia! I said my goodbyes, and got talking to a Spanish girl called Suzanna and two English lads called Craig and Ed. We chained mini busses 3 times in 3 hours before taking the ferry over to the island of Langkawi! Along the way we got talking to a Belgium guy called Glen and three polish girls. We all joined forces and took taxis to Cenang beach where we would stay. The next day we hired out mopeds and rode to some cable cars that would go 700 meters above sea level! We also saw some pretty waterfalls and found another stunning beach. Me and Suzanna lost the rest if the Crew and decided to head back to base where we had a seafood dinner by the beach. Later that evening, a French girl I met in Koh Lanta called Juliette met us for a drink along with a French-Canadian called Gabriel.
Unfortunately I got heat stroke and spent the next two days indoors before moving onto Penang with Suzanne and Glen. After finding suitable accommodation, I started to feel worse and by the end of the night I ended up in Hospital with an IV drip! I instantly started to feel better afterwards but I guess I can tick off the Asian hospital experience! With having little energy, all I could do for a few days was to explore the historic city of Georgetown, founded by a Brit called Francis Light. An interesting fellow, he set up a fort to fend of French attacks in the 1700s. I felt a little like I was back at home, with the vast array of English heritage on offer, along with the French, Chinese and Malay influence. This is by far the most interestingly visual city I have visited for a while, and made up for the shenanigans of being under the weather. Next stop Cameron Highlands before Kuala Lumpur!
