Today I started the day eating the included breakfast at hostel which was great - freshly cooked pancakes, cereal, toast and crossiants.
Then I did the walking tour on which started at the hostel. It was a really nice group of people. Near the beginning of the tour I was pooed on by a big pigeon, right on top of my head!! Luckily a girl helped me clean it off, not an awesome start to the tour! . We saw a palace, some main squares, heard about the traditional music (Fado), and went to some amazing viewpoints. After the tour an australian girl and I went to lunch for together and had a walk down by the river. We went our separate ways after lunch and I spent the afternoon wandering the streets of Alfama. Incredible views and beautiful buildings. I went inside the Panteão nacional - a big church and you could go up to the dome and the terrace and see great views over the city. On the way back I bought a pastel de nata (custard tart), supposed to have originated from Lisbon and are a must have if you come here. It was great!
Before going back to the hostel I watched the sunset from the top of a big park, where I met a South African girl that I made friends with on the tour earlier. We went back to the hostel for some free garlic bread and then walked to bairro alto, where there are a lot of bars. I had a capirinha, cocktail of Brazil. It was really interesting hearing all about South Africa.
On the way back we both bought a custard tart each, a traditional way to end a great day in Lisbon.

Caryn Breakfast sounds yummy! I'm sure you made the most of it to set yourself up for the day. You don't say what pooed on a you - a big what?!!! Dad can sympathise with you - he's been a target twice this summer! You really sound enthusiastic about Lisbon (and the custard tarts). Lovely set of photos to look through. It was good to talk to you earlier this evening. We're looking forward to seeing you on Sunday. Enjoy the next few days; have fun and stay safe xxx
Daf Good breaky shame no eggs & bacon!! I think you're going to be churched and museums out by the time you get home. What is in a capirinha and was it good? Thanks for text telling us about going to beach today it made me daydream that I was going whilst I was in a boring office - any distraction is welcome! See you soon x
Laura Woops- I presume a very big pigeon Capirinha - it is a mix of cachaça which is a white rum from Brazil, sugar, ice and lime.
