Matt and Ant's Travels
I decided to spend the day with couple of guys we met at the hostel called Duncan and John and spend the day looking around the island. We found out that you needed to get a Tongan drivers license to be able to drive here so Duncan got one pretty quickly and we hired a car from friendship cafe. When we were sorting it out Matt and Rob had finished at the hospital and so decided to come with us. We all crammed into this tiny car and headed off to the west of the island. Our first stop was the blowholes. These are supposed to be the biggest blow holes in the world but I'm not sure. The sight was awesome. Huge great waves crashed up against the cliffs and the pressure caused huge jets of air to shoot up into the sky. It was an amazing thing to watch and I just felt completely mesmerised by them. The view was made even better when a pod of dolphins swam passed and started jumping out of the water! Our second stop was this gorgeous beach off a very small road. I'm not sure how Matt managed to find it but it was beautiful and definitely more like what I expected from the island. We stayed a little while but had to tear ourselves away as we had the rest of the island to explore. We continued on to the most eastern point of the island and looked into over the dateline into yesterday which was pretty cool. There were a few more stops that we wanted to make which included the burial site for the crown prince who recently died, the Trilathon which is a bit like stone henge and is just a huge great big stone. We also managed to get a flat tyre which when we took it off the car had a total of six nails in it. Our last stop of the day was to the landing place of Captain James Cooke back in the 1700's. It was a brilliant day and really showed me more of this island and its beauty which is like a hidden treasure waiting to be found. I have once again fallen in love with a place and know that time is really flying by!
In the evening we had two things to celebrate firstly Duncan was leaving the following day so we had to give him a good send off and secondly at midnight i would be the first person in the world born on the 5th of September to celebrate my birthday. We went to the Bilfish and it was Karaokee (don't know how to spell it?) night. We all managed to get up and sing after we nominated Rynn to sing without her knowing! The highlight had to be when the whole group got up and sang summer nights. It was a really fun night. It got to midnight and in true Guys fashion I got Gin which I have no vowed never to drink again in my life as I hate it. From then on things are a blur but it was a very fun time.
