Hey guys
Looks like we're leaving around the same time as you and will be on a similar route to start with. Check us out at www.longroadtripsouth.com
We've unfortunatley missed out on all the gatherings in the uk as we're working on our sailing yacht in the eastern med for the summer......but we are due back in the uk in early October for some last minute headless chicken running around. Hope to catch up with you then.

Hey Bob and Inga,
Great site and looking forward to following your travels. Eric has just been to Botswana and Namibia in his new Merc ML and it broke down wherever he went - stick to trusty Cathey!
All the best,

Hey Rob, Inga and Cathey
Just wanted to pop by and wish this website all the best :) I hope we can meet up at some point before you go. Loved the pictures of Cathey. You've inspired us to think of an original colour for Dino. The only thing we've thought of so far is to paint him purple with black spots after his namesake in the cartoon. Not sure how well this will go down in some of the more obscure countries we visit. Any thoughts???????
I've also left a resonse on our BB regarding Ireland ...
Hopefully be in touch soon
Cheers
Ollie

I had to laugh,
If you look at my message below, I talk of bullet proof vests. Well, just after my posting I went onto MWEB to see the news online and the very first article read as follows:
Top storiesWelcome to SA - and bullets2006-08-08
Two tourists from Tokyo who arrived in South Africa on Saturday, had to dodge bullets shortly after arrival when four men on the R21 highway started firing at them and their South African hostess.
The attackers are believed to have followed the woman and the two Japanese from Johannesburg International Airport and started firing at them near the Tembisa off-ramp.
The tourists and their hostess were en route to Pretoria.
One of the tourists said he had noticed the car when they left the airport.
The tourists had exchanged foreign currency at the airport "and almost paid with their lives", said their hostess.
Thought bullet was a stone
A few kilometres from the airport, the woman, who asked to remain anonymous, spotted a car behind her.
"I was behind a truck. Two other cars passed us, but another car stayed right behind me. I was irritated, because he just hung behind like that," she said.
Moments later, the woman thought a stone had been thrown at her car, but after the second "stone" hit the vehicle, she realised something was amiss and stepped on the accelerator.
"I overtook the truck on the left. Then I overtook another car on the left. Don't ask me what happened after that; I just drove. I was like a berserk person."
One of the attackers hung out of the back window of a black Volkswagen and fired shots.
'Just like a movie'
"I never knew my car could go so fast. When I saw them shooting, I didn't look at them again."
The woman and her two guests were unharmed.
She said the two sat dead quiet during the shooting, and one of them described it as similar to a scene in a movie.
A group of African ambassadors complained recently that syndicates worked from the airport, following and attacking diplomats and other foreign visitors.
