As ever your name always seems to come up at parties, I was at Pat's Party in Munich and bumped into Gunt and Andrea. As ever we were re-living some of Gunt's parties and your name popped up, so i asked after you and heard that you and Rob are now embarking on this amazing Journey through Africa.
Well Elke, myself and the not so little Elena would like to wish you and Rob all the best plus good luck for the Journey down. We will be regularly visiting the site to see your progress.

Hi Gunt. Sorry it hasn't worked out with your & our travell plans! Funny, would have thought that with all your comings and goings at least one of the options would have worked out? Must be old Murphy's Law?? Anyway not to worry now as we will be seeing you in Jhb in August (Wow, that is great news!) Yes, we will be up in Jhb (with or without Cathey depending on which way we come) at some stage around August. See you then and good luck with the move!
Hi Bron - thanks for the posting. Yes, we had a great night - see the photos on the site! Andrew WAS there and on great form too - keeping the family flag flying high. In fact he helped me fitting our new gas cooker to Cathey today too, last minute replacement, (which works great by the way) so that is one less thing now on the list of things still to do! Yes, hopefully it still works out and we get to see you somewhere on the route. If not then we will see you back in S.A. after you get back. my travel plans for the first half of 2007 have been set and I'll be in Libya mid March- can't you just fly in for a weekend ;) It seems as if we're going to miss each other in Libya, Tunisia, Egypt and Kenya as I'll be in Egypt and Tunis only in July and will need to be in Kenya at the end of March. Unfortunatley I can't postpone my trip to Libya for four weeks as I need to be in SA mid April; however I've decided to move to Jo'burg in August after 13 years Germany- will Cathy still make it from PE to Jhb?

Hi guys, posting on this day, your leaving party... So sorry I can't be there - hopefully Andrew will be there - sitting in sweltering heat (40+) in Oudtshoorn and enjoying dialup... Just to wish you both the most magic of journeys - will hopefully be trailing along behind not too far from now (I can't believe you guys are leaving before us!). Nope, seriously have a fab time, and maybe we will see you on the Aswan Ferry, other than that we have now removed our swimming pool in SA so we have LOADS of landy parking space! Thanks for the update notice, all I can say is that Kat, the DuK and I are extremely jealous!!! Still we are savings our Euros in the hope of the next one to S America and a run up to Alaska.
Just some advise, I noted you said you had changed the swivel ball hosuing oil........as one overlander to another can I make a recommendation here......drain the oil and replace with Swivel Housing special grease. This is because no matter how good those seals may be here, they will fail in the dust and sand of Africa. We changed before our trip and never had an issue. Other we met had constant problem with oil leaks and contamination of the brake discs and pads.
Shall look forward to watching your progress. Have a fun and action filled trip and many many happy adventures. Just remember that it may seem tough some days and you may crave to have some personal space but your are driving to freedom and everyday will be a cherished memory. Don't think, just do it.

Can you believe it's nearly time to get Cathey on the road. Time has flown. We are looking forward to hearing all the stories and memories of the BIG adventure ! Please keep us posted. When is the BIG DAY of departure? All is going well down here in the land of oz.

we are in morocco until 12 jan and then off to mauritania and mali. small chance you will catch us up in mali. hope so. about the sausage thing......just a greedy obsession of mine, that and macdonalds. sad, as am a chef and should know better. our web will be updated soon so hope it helps you guys. watch your speed limit in morocco. traffic cops everywhere: we got a fine. didnt think dino was capable.

Between you guys and Andrew & Bron you are making me lekker liss to do the same trip. I have recently finished rebuilding my 110 from a bakkie to a county station wagon so will be watching the four of you closely and maybe in a couple of years time will put my "madala" on the same course southward bound.
