Hey all,
We have got friendly with a few of the people in our room and a couple of other randoms so have been exploring with them the last couple of days. Friday night 8 of us headed to a park where they had a light and water show thing then come back and had a few drinks in the hostel bar (green tea for me). Our posse included me, harriet, the english girl here to work on the genocide, the english dude who shagged the transexuals, the disillisusioned american girl, an american guy, a french guy and a japanese woman. It was all good fun and a few of them decided to head out about 12.30. I was pretty knackered and knew that the English girl and boy were blatantly going to hook up so decided to give it a miss, but Harriet went out with them 2 and another american guy Paddy who joined the group. They went to a rooftop bar and Harriet said she had fun! Luckily, the two brits bought Harriet back to the hostel before disappearing off to a hotel for the night, which was nice of them as they were both in our dorm!
Saturday
A very chilled morning lounging about, although I miss having a book and all the ones for sale or in the book swap are in Spanish. About 2pm, 6 of us from last night (including the two brits who are a bit loved up now) went to Marifloris, a nice part of Lima, to a huge food festival. It was like a comedy sketch seeing the 6 of us pile into a tiny taxi; good job they are not as hot on road safety here. There was literally 1000s of stalls of local foods and products so we mooched and tried any free samples we could scab and then we got meals from a few stalls. I had a quinoa burger which was very nice and then tried Cerviche, which is raw fish submerged in lemon and lime juice and the acids then slightly cook and flavour the fish- it was amazing and I hope to get it more as we travel around as it is a local speciality. It was served with giant corn and fried corn and calamari which was also great. Harriet was tempted by the guinea pigs but stuck with a kebab. There was a beer tent there and so they all had a few drinks and there a few bands playing, etc. We didnt leave til it shut at 10.30 and all piled into another taxi back to the hostel. We then decided to head out again, but Harriet was pretty knackered and had a sore foot after some guy stood on it, so decided to stay. The rest of us went to a karoake bar (vic you would be proud!). We got a local bus there and it was like a cattle truck, but all part of the experience! There are like 3 floors and on each one is a different karoake so we took control of the middle floor and the american girl and english guy were fantastic singers. We were there for like 3-4 hours and worked our way through Abba, Billy Idol, Police, Amy Winehouse, Killers, etc, and finished with a group effort of Bohemian Rhapsody! A group of Peruvians were most impressed and wanted pics with us, haha! We got back about 4.30, again on one of the killer buses (it is handy because several of the group speak Spanish)! Its sad that the english guy and american girl move on today, but me and Paddy are meant to be going for a run today and doing our own triathlon on Tuesday (we will see what he says today when he is sober, haha). It has certainly made being stuck in Lima more fun and if we hadnt stayed we wouldnt have met these guys!
Well done for sorting wardrobes Vic, we can overcome anything! Jan, Harriet has tried various methods to contact you but her phone isnt working and she went to shops yesterday to try and call but their systems were down. I think shes going to try again today, but shes good and has settled into the backpacking well!

Mum Hey babe, sounds like you made a good posse and glad you're both having some fun! Food certainly sounds interesting and impressed with veggie choice, not sure about guinea pigs tho! How is your spanish coming along? All good here, Dad's uncle Les' 100th birthday today so popped in, saw his card from the queen and shared a bit of his cake. Alice and Billy send their love! Love you! Hasta luego xx
Jake Hey Al, all sounds very cool, sounds like a good group! Just to let you know I have reloaded those pictures and shared them again for you. If they still have trouble opening them, which they might, I would suggest we just resend them via email, as I'm not really convinced by Dropbox. Anyway! Have a great time and I'm looking forward to reading more about your adventures!
Auntie vic Hey karaoke queen. I am very impressed. I like the sound of your gang. I wanna know if paddy (is he Irish) did the triathlon challenge? The food sounds lush.....not. Could I eat there? News from home......... Sunday mooching round town and furniture shops, wardrobes ain't cheap but luckily debs has sourced sturdy flat park from a designer they call eye keya. (Must be a trendy London thing) so things looking up. Got some bits for Lukeys party and I ironed while Ian and jake took mont on a new walk. Luke's out round some birds, Ian and jake watching footie and montys asleep. Poor Harriet's feet hope they recover soon. Love ya lots xxxxxxxxx ps. Blogs amazing xxxxxx
Alex Thanks Jake, you are a star!! I'm sure it'll be fine! Mum, my spanish isn't really progressing yet. 100, eh? Good genes! Vic, paddy is American and we're meant to running later and doing the triathlon on Tuesday. Oh and good news I found a brush in a Peruvian pound shop, although 1 Soles is the equivalent of about 25p so I got a brush, hair bands and skipping rope for less than a quid! Plus, someone left an English book at the hostel which I quickly nabbed, so we're getting there!
Auntie vic Brush and a book!!! That's our girl xxxxx
Paul Sounds as if your time in Lima is proving quite an experience, Alex. You are obviously enjoying the food but I have to say my sympathies go to poor Harriet. Tofu one day and quinoa the next - yuck! I'll try to keep an open mind on the cerviche though doing so is a bit of a challenge! It's good to hear that you're enjoying yourself and thank heaven you finally got your hairbrush. Life would have been near impossible!
Paul You might like to know that Lucy is now Mrs Hilton, having had a wonderful wedding and honeymoon on a Greek island. Karen is off to Portugal tomorrow for a week's holiday with her Dad, having been going mad for the last week hoping to look good in her bikini (spin, spin, and more spin). Sarah now lives in Colchester and has joined a gym there though, since we're friends, we still talk and stuff. Haven't seen much of Dave recently but Gavin is around though not spinning. Stewart is back from 3 weeks in Spain (hopefully you can put faces to each name?). If you'd like to know about anyone specifically, just let me know. The gym is a little less sunny without someone's smiley face though!
Auntie Debbie Loving the blog Darling!!!!!! Sounds like your mixing with a very eclectic group!!!!!!!! Is it really HOT? Seems unreal to think how difficult it was to get a hairbrush!!!!!!! We all looking forward to Luke's party but you will be missed!!!!!! Uncle Hughie and I are going to Napa to see Joe for a long weekend in October (Should be Fun!!!!!!!!!) Don't think I will cope with the cocktail called "head f****r. Loads of love to you and your partner in crime Harriet XxxxxxxxxxxxxxX
Auntie vic Evening. Sorry to hear about the primarge chaffing. Remember cream not talc!! The run sounded amazing I trust you whipped paddy (yank not Irish) 's arse. News from home update...... Luke's day 1 second week bit dry! But good. Boys watching footie. Montys asleep. I'm resting in bed busy day at work but tried out my new glasses and I can see. Fell up the stairs at work luckily no one saw so no one will ever know. Getting excited for young uns birthday. Xxxxx love you xxxxxx hope Harriet got phone sorted xxxxxxx
Jan Hi. Sounds amazing! Very envious of you both! The call from Harriet was so clear, better than from Kesgrave!! Can't believe that she's eaten llama! Good news about the hairbrush. It certainly seems cheap over there. Everyone is enjoying the blog, Harriet's cousin said it was as good as a soap!! Love to you both xx
