All good things have to come to an end unfortunately and our 'holiday' from backpacking South America is one of those things. We figured that we could live by a bus, but no one thought to tell us that they stop running at 8am, so when we went to leave at 9am our only option left was a taxi ($18 instead of $2). Grumble. But we took the taxi to the channel, and took the ferry across the channel, and took the shuttle up to the airport, and we reluctantly left the islands. And we were landing in Guayaquil. This airport was odd: arrivals had a lovely plant wall by the back, and out front was a giant fish pond fish. The fish were huge too and they all just kind of piled on top of each other as the kids threw food at them. We took a $5 taxi to a hostile RE Bed and Breakfast, a super cool hostel/B&B in the centre of downtown. Sadly it started pouring/thunderstorming as soon as we arrived so we had to stay indoors most the afternoon, but that evening we gave up on waiting and ran out into the rain to eat at a cervicheria that had a vegetarian option (a huge bowl of veggies and coconut sauce). Jeremy's garlic and fish dish had an entire garlic scattered through it.
We also accomplished a load of laundry today. Considering how salty our clothes got in the Galápagos it is definitely worth noting how excited we were fresh clothes!
