Our arrival in the bus terminal in Banos was hectic. Within minutes of entering the terminal, company representatives were fighting amongst each other for us to pick between them - we chose the one that was literally pulling out the door that minute. In hindsight, we should have picked the other company because twenty minutes after arriving in Quito, while we were in the taxi heading towards our hostel, I realised that there was no money left in my wallet. A quick check of our bags revealed that no money was left in Jeremy's wallet, the camera was gone from the camera case, and his Bose headphones were missing too.
So our first day in Quito was a slight disappointment. The rest of the day was spent at the tourist police station filing a police report for our insurance company - this included a return trip (in the rain) in the back of a police van.
We concluded the miserable day with an excellent dinner at Cafe San Blas, a few blocks from our hostel.
