We started the day with a failed Subte attempt. Our line was limited (one every 30 minutes instead of 2)m and every train that passed was packed, so we gave up and ended up walking. We had planned to catch the free walking tour, but since our line was delayed and we chose to walk instead of wait an hour, we missed the tour. We followed the Linea D route into the city, saw the Obelisk and thought we were in Washington DC, visited the Cathedral wearing shorts (scandalous!) and the Plaza de Mayo where a protest for the freedom of Milagros Sala was taking place - and people were taking the opportunity to set up market stalls.
We stopped walking after this for a lunch place: a hotdog place called Doggs where neither of us had a hotdog (caesar salad and a vegie wrap). We tried to continue on after, but it became too hot. We found a pharmacy for some much needed ibuprofen, and then trained back to the hostel, waited until the heat left a little to find a supermarket for dinner foods only to stumble across a pizza joint selling large pizzas for 35 pesos ($3.50 AUD). So we bought that, and a cheap large beer to share, and that was the cheapest dinner ever.
