Day Ninety Nine - October 13th, 2013
Narrabeen
More pancakes for brekkie this morning! I wish we'd found these shake and bake delights earlier in the trip - I might weigh 20lbs more, but man are they yummy, and easily transported!
We met my aunt and uncle at the local cafe on the corner for a milkshake and a catch up which was lovely - our first Sunday morning in the Northern Beaches that we've been able to enjoy (we always worked the breakfast - supper shift at the Grill).
The day was heating up so we headed over to the tidal pool for a quick 500m to cool off. We lazed around the tent sunbathing for the early afternoon, before migrating to the beach so Elly could surf and I could continue on my bronzing mission. The wind whipped itself up into a frenzy and I was smothered in sand, which in hefty gusts can be quite painful. Once Elliot was done in the surf, we headed to Wooly's to see what we could rustle up on our now $20 a day budget, after securing the tent which had tried its hardest to blow away in the wind! We were both craving a roast dinner, after too long without one, and settled on chicken for Elly and veggies with gravy for me. Turns out, if it's not Bisto, it's just not gravy, and we ended up cutting into large lumps between mouthfuls of leek and sweet potato. Never mind.
The ducks have been hiding away today but we snatched a few minutes with Jemima and her depleted number of ducklings (down from an original 14 to 8). There's definitely a storm blowing in, and the rain clouds were gathering over me on my run. Elly isn't feeling so good (could be a combination of a cycle, swim and surf today, mixed with hay fever) and so I hope the storm misses us as I want him to get a solid night of sleep. It's the little things like that which we take for granted in a house!
