Day Ninety Seven - October 11th, 2013
Narrabeen
Another beautiful day in the Northern Beaches! It was a blustery night with a storm blowing in from seemingly nowhere, and we rushed about to secure our belongings we had left carelessly outside, not thinking the weather would change from the perfect day. We had a rather loud night in the tent despite Elly hastily securing the guide ropes as the wind blew up. We awoke to a grey morning which soon burnt off into a lovely sunny day. We spent the morning relaxing with a book, and watching the ducklings play. There are several mother ducks (Jemima, Peaches Geldof, Diana and Black Beauty are the ones roaming our turf) who have a lot of ducklings between them. Jemima and Peaches Geldof seem to like the same spot around our tent and some of the ducklings or mixed up. The mothers chase the ducklings which don't belong to them, and peck at them with their beaks. For some reason, Jemima has now rejected one of her 12 babies, and his has had to go out and forage for himself. I got pretty into this drama and forgot that it must happen all the time. I'm just waiting for the right moment to grab him and start hand rearing him. Hopefully he survives the night. :(
We took a walk to the shops and spent the afternoon doing our laundry. A nice 45 minute run as the sun went down and we were ready for our salmon supper! In bed now and looking forward to an early night.
