Dublin Dublin Dublin.
We have spent three wonderful nights here, staying with our first ever Servas host, Josephine, who has been so lovely and generous towards us. We have been especially enjoying getting proper meals with lots of veggies, as we were often living off two minute noodles and the like...
Her place is in Crumlin, a residential area only a short bus from the city centre. each day we have gone into the city and walked around, done some shopping, admired many of the old buildings and just gotten a nice feel for the place. It is a bit chillier than London, but still nice. only a tiy bit of rain today, nothing too drastic.
Some highlights were dublin castle, trinity college and the book of kells (the most amaaazing old library in there), the guinness brewery, and nice old buildings like the GPO (general post office) and this giant long pole sticking out of the ground called 'the spire' which just looks like a giant needle sticking out of the ground, josephine told us it ewas built to comemmorate the new millenium.
People have been extremely friendly here, everyone who we ask for directions or advice or anything are just so open and nice and always wanting to help. It really makes things so much easier and just better, especially if your in a sticky situation.
I would have liked to go out one night here, to the temple bar area to check out some live music and bands and pubs in the area whicle we were here, but it just hasnt worked out with timing and stuff, we have to get up early in the morning to catch a train to Cork too. But its allright, we will definitely go out and check out the pubs while we are down there, and I am very excited to be able to visit Castletownsend, where my ancestors are from! Tomorrow night we are staying with a Servas host named Tony, in Glengarrif. Sounds lovely there, so it should be great!
So far am loving Ireland, looking forward to seeing more!
