It was Cathey's birthday on the 29th of May, aka last friday. I spent that sunny morning and afternoon babysitting the sweet little kids theo and oliver who live across the street. cathey and mark drove up to Whistler that afternoon, me and the boys were playing in the front garden and waved them as they drove away. Little did Cathey know she had a luxurious spa/massage treatment waiting for her at the fancy hotel...muaahaha. Then we went inside and ate sandwiches. While the boys were alseep I read "The Reader", man that book is good. I dont usually condone reading books that were made into movies right after youv seen the movie (which was my case) but i loved the movie so i figured, better read the book. And its even better, if thats possible.
So then nina, luke and I were left to our own devices that evening, we got to bed early as we had to catch the greyhound early in the morning to Whistler. Ed kindly drove us from next door, and we had a nice drive up to the village, very picturesque, nin and i passed the time by eating 'wine gums' (SO GOOD i wish we had them in australia) and listening to bbc radio podcasts reviewing 'drag me to hell' and 'the jonas brothers'. goooood times.
when we arrived at the hotel we a)were delighted with its niceness b)relaxed by the pool c) proceeded to rent bikes. We had lots of fun biking along the mountain trails, we went for about an hour and a half, the landscape was so picturesque and the air was crispy like chicken wings. well not at all. but you know what i mean.
after burning our leg muscles we decided to go back to the pool. wow, what a hard life. I spent the next few hours laughing out loud reading 'everything is illuminated', such a good book. i have to say it is very unlike me to be reading this much. i am usually the person who only reads when something like hp or twilight is around. but no, iv changed. its scary. but i like it.
so dinner was in celebration of cathey's awesomeness, we went to monks and i had bruschetta but i was stupid and didnt enquire if there was any cheese in the dish (even though it clearly didnt say so in the description on the menu) and lo and behold, i got a nice pile of parmesan melted so enticingly on top of my rataouille. so i mainly ate yam fries that night, but it was no matter, because yam fries are delicious, and something else that should be brought into australian dining experiences. are you listening sydney?
i seem to have a bit of trouble when it comes to my dairy free life over here. why it was just yesterday (ok, i am starting to sound just a liiiiiittle bit pretentious and annoying and retarded, which is only partly true) that i was in startbucks. well, that was my first mistake. but whatever, i needed coffee. Anyway, it wasnt until i was halfway through my soy latte that i started getting that all too familiar headache and dairy haze that used to cloud my days of yore. so i started getting suspicious of those starbucks baristas, overcharging me and aggrivating my allergic tendencies! evil b****es. never again will i be so very stupid. but here i am, i didnt die, my immune system must be doing well. touch wood.
the weather here is just getting better and better. it was already 28 degrees by the time we were in the car for work. craaazy stuff, i am wearing a little summery dress in the office today, and it is a very quiet day. 2 calls in the past 3 hours. and one of them was cathey. ohhh brother. but we are probably going to the beach again this arvo, as we did yesterday, and stayed for dinner too at the little restaurant a jericho beach. it was lovely, the water was nice, the black sand made me laugh and think of our white white beaches at home.
i had better be off. the fans are doing their job surprisingly well today, usually this little office is one big hot piece of pie.
