Friday October 19th
A day trip to Polynesian Cultural Centre is starting at 10.30am. Its a hour drive away from our hostel so it was a nice journey as we got to view around the island, seeing all the different beaches.
Once we arrived, we had a choice of either going along with the guided tour for extra $10 or wander off and do our self guided tour. We knew that it wouldn't be worth, going along with the guided tour as we wouldn't follow what was going on. So we went off by ourselves. We were the only ones from the coach who have done that!
First thing we did was going on the canoe rides before it get busy and we were already on the canoe within 5 mins! Again there was a guide on the canoe, telling us about each villages.
The first nearest village we visited was Tonga. There was a show that was beginning to start so we quickly attended it. It was about how they played the drums and also blowing into the seashells.
Nearby, there were few workshops where you can have a go on trying their skills. One of them was Spears throwing. Daniel had a go on it and was in top 3 for getting near to the target.
Next workshop we tried was to weave and making it into a fish which was alot of fun!
Next village nearby was Tahiti. There was a presentation where they were making coconut bread and cooking it on open fire. Unfortunately we just missed it but in time to try their cooking. It was yummy! As we were the last couple to leave the presentation, there were plenty leftovers so they gave us the leftovers to finish off!! We also got the recipe so maybe one day, we will try and make it when we are back home.
We were told that there was a show going on nearby that was about to start, so we went and have a peek. It was their traditional dance that they do in their village.
Each park usually have their own parade and this one did but on canoes instead. We were lucky to leave the show in good time as we managed to get good seats to have a good view for photos.
Each village were doing their traditional dance on their canoe ride. It lasted about 30 mins.
After that, we weren't sure where to go next but we were wondering on how to get the fresh flower leis as we haven't recieved ours. We noticed alot of people have their own. So we went back to the information centre to enquiry about that. We were told that we would get it when we have dinner in the evening.
When we were walking back to the information centre, on our journey we saw Fijian show but didn't know what it was about. We had a hour to spare before attending for our meal reservation so we wandered around, making sure that we haven't missed anything that we should have done.
We did have a go at hawaiian traditional dance, doing hula stuff.
Had 30mins left, so we decided to go to the restaurant and queued up. It was a good thing cos the queue was getting long so we turned up at the right timing.
We were greeted with 2 hawaiians with the fresh flower leis, had our photos taken with them. Were shown to our seats. We were sitting at the right place to see the dinner show.
It was a buffet style with unlimited drinks so we made the most of it to fill us up! Our table had to wait for our turn to attend to the buffet for a long time. We were getting hungry and piled up our plates when it came to our turn!
It was lovely and very filling! Worth the money! Time to move on for the evening show which was starting at 7.30pm
The show was very colourful and lively, alot of dancing going on. It went on for about 90mins. You don't need us to describe ad you can see in the photos for yourself :) It was enjoyable show, that's all we can say.
Time to go back to the coach for our lift back to the hostel. Didn't return back till about 10.30pm.
