Saturday 19th January
The ship started to move at 6.30am. The staff woke us up at 7.15am for our breakfast. So far so good that Daniel didn't feel any seasickness!
The ship took us to Whitsunday Island for Whitehaven beach. We were told to wear stinger suit to avoid of getting stung by jellyfishes. After seeing so many jellyfishes, it dented our confidence to swim in the sea! So we decided to chill out on the beach, instead of swimming/messing about in the sea.
We had to board onto the small boat to reach to the island. We had to walk through the national park to reach to the beach. The beach was full of white and soft sand! Daniel was dissapointed that he didn't bring the stinger suit as after he saw the beach, he wanted to jump into the sea!
We had a couple of hours to use on the beach so basically we just chilled on the beach till it was time to walk back through the national park to return back to the ship for a early lunch.
On our return to the ship, we were told to get our snorkelling kit ready and to store it in our room, ready for the session in the afternoon.
While we were waiting for our lunch, we spotted a couple of sea turtles swimming nearby. Unfortunately we didn't have the camera with us at the time when it was a good photo opportunity. Lisa ran down to grab the camera, hoping to have another opportunity. Unfortunately most of the time, the sea turtles were in the distance but we did manage to grab one so hopefully in the photo, you can be able to see it!
We moved onto the north of Hook Island for our snorkelling session. We were quite nervous but pleased that we haven't spotted any jellyfishes surrounded by the ship. We jumped onto the small boat which took us to the beach. We had problem of setting our snorkelling stuff as our masks kept steaming up and we were unable to breathe properly! Once we got it sorted with our underwater disposable camera at hand, we were off and swam in search for the fishes. There were plenty to see and it was so amazing!! So colourful but we didn't spot any big fishes such as sharks or sea turtles. We wished that we were able to have an underwater digital camera as we felt that we did see more here instead of in Cairns! Unfortunately due to our excitement, we have already used up the cameras!
At one point while Lisa was swimming around on her own, she saw something moved under the sand and realised it was a mantra ray! She was gutted that she didn't have any cameras with her!
After 3 hours being in that location, it was time to return back to the ship. While we were getting changed, one of the staff asked if we have seen the fishes that was swimming near the ship. We weren't sure what fishes she was talking about so she got a slice of bread out and started to throw it into the sea. Suddenly plenty of fishes came up and started eating! She then asked whether any of us wanted to have a go. Lisa took the opportunity and fed the fishes. At one stage, she was unsure if the fish would get her finger so she was sorta dangling the bread, hoping the fish would just manage to touch the bread. Poor fish was struggling as it was trying to reach with its mouth open so many times, which caused us to laugh! How cruel we were!
The skipper then announced that it was playtime where you can climb to the end of the ship and jump off! We didn't take the opportunity of course cos there were jellyfishes swimming by!!
In the evening, Lisa was feeling unwell so we both decided to have an early night which was impossible. Our room was SOOOOO hot! It was unbearable!
