Arrival day, up at 5 am on the road at 6, taking us 6.5 hours due to road works on the A30. Pitched up, set up and ate our lunch and then set off for stroll along the beautiful coastal path.
We walked alomg the coast path to Porthscatho. Here the small quay beach has the only dog ban in the area from Easter Day to October. Bit as it was Good Friday and tide out we walked down to the beach. Alf takes up his favourite beach game tug of war with kelp roots!
We walk through the tiny village to the next beach, a 5 min stroll, here dogs allowed all year, it is a good size sand and rock Pools. Behind the beach is "The Hidden Hut" which is delightful, large wooden benches and tables with beautiful fresh spring flowers. I sampled there homemade lemon, ginger and honey tea.
The stunning colour of Gerrans coves is just wonderful, fell in love with the place straight away.
The camp site is right on the coastal path, our plot with sea views.
We decided even though very tired to travel to Tesco, nearest supermarket that evening to stock up. Roads were quiet so a good decision. Back around 2145 we unpacked and slept!
Saturday our first full day we walk along the coastal path joining 2 walks I had printed off, one from NT site and a South west coastal path. Both circular ones joining each other up.
WALK Route was Gerrans SW path to Towan to Porthbeor beach (no access now due to erosion) then up to the road heading a very short distance along a lane to Bohortha village then head left on a path down to the creek. We then walk along the creek to Porth. Back to coastal path at Towans and back to camp site.
GOOD FoR DOGS - The walk is extremely dog friendly. All,off the lead except for very short distances when needed to walk on a lane which was twice for no more than 5 mins.
No extreme cliff drops, most of path safe and had low level hedge or brambles stopping the dogs wandering off a cliff!
Towan beach is large, with rock pools. Sandy at low tide, and shingle at the top. Really lovely and dog friendly all year round. There are NT toilets at Porth just up a path from the beach and a van selling drinks, snacks and ice creams with courtyard seating.
Porthbeor beach at this time is cut off, we have visited a few years ago and the very steep path is closed due to coastal erosion. A shame as once down there it is a large sandy beach,
The walk down to the Creek takes you to a ferry station across to St Mawes which you can see across the water as well as the main river.
No rain today, sunny intervals, shorts, t shirts and on and off fleece day, perfect walking day.
We did walk past the campsite to the Royal Standard only to find it closed between 2 and 6!
So back at tent for an hour. Dogs fed. Fast asleep only to be wakened again in a few minutes to have a pint!
We shall then come back for our curry Russ has cooked and chillaxe and plan our day out tomorrow.
A relaxing day with my thoughts of definitely returning to this site.
