Today we took ourselves off to the Banks Peninsula for a boat trip with Black Cat Cruises. What a treat we had.
Beautiful sunny day we took a ride out to Akaroa, a harbour village on the peninsula. The journey from Pegasus incorporates beautiful scenary along the way.
The harbour as small amount of restaurants and shops along the harbour and beach front. The Inlet is a beautiful blue colour surrounded by the hills.
We were really lucky lucky on the trip and came across a pod of Hector Dolphins with 5 youngsters of various ages from 1 month to 5 months. What a treat. They are a beautiful dolphin with a creamy colour.
Hector's dolphin is the best-known of the four dolphins in the genus Cephalorhynchus and is the only endemic cetacean to New Zealand. At approximately 1.4 m in length, it is one of the smallest cetaceans.
We were also treated to one jumping out of the water and giving us a twirl! We spent quite some time with the pod as well as cruising around the coast of the Inlet learning of its history.
There were numerous birds nestled on cliff edges and swimming on the Inlet. At one point we had around 20 Shags or Cormorants flying appearing to be racing with the boat!
We also saw 2 Blue Penguins coming to the surface and then diving again for food.
A large cave as me as we headed to the neck and out to sea as we crossed to the other side to see the New Zealand Fur Seals playing in the rock Pools on the Rocky crevices and sun bathing.
Free tea tea and coffee are available on the cruise and other drinks available to,purchase.
The captain Ian was well informed and comical. Recommend the trip, for sure. Also if you do not see anything on the tour then you are given a voucher to return.
After the cruise we ate we ate and browsed the shops and headed over to Okains bay which takes you over to the other side of the peninsula. Spectacular journey climbing to the highest point before dropping to, the west east side.
We returned home late and enjoyed a Tai takeaway with Rob who had been surfing,
