Hi Everyone,
Sorry but the blog has started to slip again. Main 2 reasons why are that I have been taking it real easy and laying up in bed trying to let my wounds and bruises all settle down and also been moving around a little bit. Not been overly interested in taking photos, mainly as I cant hold the damn camera straight and dropped it twice in Bangkok in 5 minutes.......well after this introduction, lets get on with the bloggin.
Arrived in Bangkok after a really nice flight on Bangkok airways from Phnom Pehn. It was amazing at PP airport, as soon as you stepped through the security guards and into the airport it was like entering a different world. European duty free, coffee shops etc...and full of well to do Kymers. I think Cambodia has an unsually high wealth distribution problem whereby 3% of the population have 95% of the wealth, and of course these are the peole who can afford to fly. Bangkok airways - certainly reccomend them, on tme and great service.
Landed into Bangkok newish airport and wow what a size. You could really notice the difference between Bangkok and Phnom Pehn even by airport size and then the vehicle outside, nearly all new, no motorbikes and morotways everywhere...it was like landing in a different timezone.
On the old airport shuttle bus into town....I know they can be slower than taxis but after 3 months travellign you get worn out by the hassling and constant ripping you off. I know i am goign to spell this wrong by the bus, as you would expect dropped off at the bentre of Bangkok - Ko Sao Road - its the "travellers mecca" and a sort of Westerners stop off point for anyone travelling backpacking style.
Well it all looked a bit too much like - "who has the most tattoos and who can eat cheaper than who" for me to be Frank (Frank is my dad...honest!! hello dad!) and also with my aching limbs I couldnt be dossing down in some place that had a 24/7 bar underneath.
So I walked for about a mile northwards, subjected to constant people wanting me to see their lovely places......its amazing how many times you can say "no thank you" and be verbally polite when in your minds you are thinking something totally opposite. Poor guys, guess they have to make a living right?
Well ended up at a place called, what was it, ah New Siam Riverside.....nice little hotel, right on the main river waterfront, with a waterfront bar, place to have breakfast and a small swimming pool. Rooms were great en suite, Tva nd all that. It wasnt superbly plush, guess a UK 3 star - but just what I needed.
Spent the rest of the day being really lazy, relaxing, tending to my wounds (last time I will mention these honest!) and watching to movie channel. Got an early night and into the 5th day I think without beer as promised not to drink whilst allowing XXXXXX to get better. (see told you I could do it!)
Tommorrow, planning some sightseeing
Steve
