So we have arrived! Slightly hot and bothered after not being able to find the promised 556 bus at Makkasan station. Grumble. But that aside, Bangkok is something else. Hot and humid, it bombards the senses.
The streets are awash with bright colours; constant chatter in Thai (really, I am sure sometimes they just broadcast for the sake of it), as well as a multitude of foreign but recognisable dialects; oh and lots of strong aromas...both tantalising and, well, the less said about the other the better.
We're staying in a guest house just off the Khao San Road (KSR), the noisiest and most traveler packed street in Bangkok. Fine for first timers, but for those of us now too old to get special rates with the STA, it's ...well, like I would image Ibiza to be (have fun girlies! lol).
Thankfully, Th Rambuttri (one street over), although still full of travellers, is a peaceful haven in comparison. Nice bars, with eclectic mix of old and new music, all with a decent melody....unlike the thumping music from next door. The street is also home to a number of massage houses and roll-in street food. The Phad Thai is cheap and satisfying (handy really, as I think we will be eating a lot of it).
I like it here :)
