Day 2 in Pyrenees
Today was supposed to be a bit of a rest day, before tackling the high mountain pass of the Col du Tourmalet tomorrow - legs will need to be relatively fresh for that stiff climb.
We found a pamphlet with what looked to be a nice route for a gentle stroll. Certainly didn’t need anything too strenuous on this hot and sunny day.
In the event, the well marked, route took us all the way up to the top of a mountain - involving some 2,640ft of climbing (contrast Table Mountain, in Cape Town, which is only 150’ more). It took us the best part of five sweaty hours.
But some stunning views from on high and some scary drops.
We encountered a few other hikers along the way - all kitted out with walking boots, walking sticks and who knows what in their backpacks - contrast us with sandals, 4 boiled sweets (that Jackie had picked up from reception), 2 bite-size sponge cakes and a 50cl bottle of water (each). Luckily, we came across a stream where we could replenish our inadequate water supplies.
(Sers [today’s blog title] was the village that the Offexploring app locked onto at the top of the mountain)
