Headed west today with the intention of riding through the National Park of ‘Landes de Gascogne’. The internet indicated that there wasn’t much accommodation in that area so we pulled up a little short and booked into the town of Langon.
Touring without a predetermined route with can stumble upon some towns that you’d never have heard of and some of these town are really interesting. Langon isn’t one of those towns. It’s a featureless place with nothing to commend it beyond a water fountain in the middle of a roundabout. We ended up staying in a hotel on out of town complex where there was a couple of fast food outlets and a cinema. This area was marginally more attractive than the town itself.
Leaving Le Havana hotel this morning, at Bergerac Airport, we crossed a small range of hills and then carried on through flattish farmland. After crossing the Garonne river, we followed the Lateral Canal into Langon. At one point a brace of delta-winged French fighter jets thundered overhead at low altitude.
Ate at Buffalo Grill. Initially refused entry because our vaxx certificates came up as ‘non-valid’ [you need a vaxx-cert to get into any bar or restaurant in France now - even outdoors] - he agreed to use another QR reader and this time it was ok. That would’ve been awkward.
The weather was overcast and cool and somewhat windy. The forecast is for it to get warmer as we go south.
