Starbucks on way out and took the cable car to Fishermans wharf area. I wanted to take the Downtown hop-on-off tour, but was a little early. I went for a walk whilst waiting & saw the sea-lions on Pier 39. They were so cute, but very noisy and seemed to be moody with each other.
The Downtown tour was ok, but again, I do not believe these sight-seeing tours are good enough. The drivers do not stop or even slow down when nearing the tourist sites. However, they do give you a good overview of the city if you are short of time.
Lunch was a pile (5) of pancakes from IHOP - international house of pancakes. Delicious, but felt so ill afterwards as too much syrup.
I took the F-line all the way to the end which I had not done before. It ends in Castro/Mission which appears to have a village feel. Lovely buildings & appears to be a rather gay area.
I then decided to try to visit Pacific Heights, or near enough & was looking for a nice, local pub to have a drink in... just the one of course cos I had to write my blog & get an early night before travelling. I took the 19 bus and jumped out at the corner of Polk & Jefferson at a pub called the Bell Tower. It served food & had a lovely local feel. A pint of Carlsberg is $4.25 which is really cheap. There were some characters in the place - a round table of people eating were all holding hands... whats that all about. Got chatting to an old timer who has suffered from cancer of the throat and was difficult to understand (he also had numberous teeth missing), but I did get that he lived in Eton Square in 1972 - his name was Shel. Got chatting to Richard who's a lawyer or public defender and his wife was out of town on business - on valentines night!. He had left his dog outside, so dragged it home & then came back. I don't really remember who I spoke to next, but I have a photo of me with some lady of a certain age....? I remember Richard came back & we walked out together at a later time & we staggered up a steep hill. He kindly went back to fetch my hat for me & I walked off and took cable car & bus home.
