Croissants and bread rolls with jam for breakfast with a refreshing cup of Coca tea. Unfortunately our planned trip in the morning to the Isle San Lerenze had to be cancelled because of rough seas. We were secretly glad as we both felt a bit lazy due to jet lag. Upon reflection we had gone off the idea of being buffeted around on a small boat. However we still planned to go to La Punta to take in the sights and leisurely walk around the harbour area.
Our taxi driver to La Punta was a genteel old man who seemed more focused on his Sunday paper rather than trying to break the land speed record - a stark contrast to Friday nights Speedy Gonzales. He looked like one of those archetypal characters you see in films sat on a park bench watching the World go by. However on this occasion I was the one sat watching the World go by - one of my favourite past times.
The weather like the day before had started out cool and cloudy. By midday the sun had broken through and was quite strong - this fact was later clarified by my pink head and Julia's scarlet shoulders. We did find shelter from the sun in the form of a small restaurant by the sea. It reminded me of the beach hut restaurants in Kerala, India - rotten wood covered in bright paints with rickety nails sticking out everywhere. We both looked blank at the menu as we tried to decipher what was what from the pictures. Little did I know we would be challenged by our choice... a huge mixed sea food platter each. As challenging as it was I was beat. I couldn't finish mine neither could Ju. My quest for a sea food platter quenched we spent the next two hours walking around La Punta trying to burn off the calories.
I had overlooked Lima the last time I was here due to time restrictions. It's not a bad city, but not one I would rush back to in a hurry as it's expensive, dirty and dull. However there are a few gems here if you scratch the surface. I cannot wait for Julia to be introduced to Cuzco tomorrow. Hopefully the altitude will be kind to us!
