Awoke at 5am feeling pretty refreshed even though our sleep was broken by late night revellers returning from a night out on the tiles - maybe that'll be us next Friday night. Our breakfast was a simple choice of scrambled eggs, ham, toast, cereal, yoghurt or a fresh fruit medley. I had trouble choosing so I had everything. After breakfast we walked a few blocks of Miraflores with the intention of finding a travel agent to book flights from Lima to Cuzco. Being middle classed champagne backpackers we didn't fancy the idea of a 30 hour bus trip to Cuzco and the cost of the bus fair wasn't that cheap in comparison.
With the flights successfully booked for Monday morning we returned to Bayview to find they had no rooms available for Saturday and Sunday night. This was to be a stroke of luck as we found a great little backpackers hostel called Pension Locanda. The owner was called Erwin and to Ju's amusement I kept on calling him Elmo. We had a basic room with tea making facilities to hand in a small kitchen outside our room. Much to my delight I found a box of Coca tea and made several brews which we enjoyed on the rooftop terrace whilst Elmo... I mean Erwin gave us some travel advice.
Later that afternoon we walked into the centre of Miraflores to grab a bite to eat. We found a restaurant which was in the Lonely Planet guide called Haiti. The food was acceptable but the price equivalent to what you may pay back home for a pub lunch. A plus point of the restaurant was it's location on the main street - I could sit and people watch whilst Ju read the Lonely Planet and planned our entertainment for the evening.
In the evening we went on a bus tour of the city. The main attraction of the tour being the Parque de la Reserva - el Circuito Magico Del Agua - a selection of magical water fountain displays with light. The guidebook states the shows are more magical and spectacular than any water show to be found in Las Vegas... a tall boast. The evenings entertainment was a perfect option plucked from Julia's new found travelling companion, the 'LP' Lonely Planet. I had attempted to take it off her earlier in the day as I felt we were drawing too much attention to ourselves by constantly looking at the map like lost tourists. Julia kindly pointed out that we looked like bloody tourists anyway, mainly because we weren't 5ft high with dark hair and dark skin. She also added we looked like catwalk models sporting every accessory from the Cotswold Camping collection.
We returned home later that evening. The show lived up to its reputation and it was truly magical and fun. Lasers and video were projected onto a fine mist and interspersed with jets of coloured water that danced from left to right. The whole display was ghostly and mesmerising and had the locals cheering in gasps of amazement - especially when they played pan pipe music and projected an image of a condor. My favourite display at the park was a red water jet tunnel which captured the child in my heart. The only downside of the evening was travelling around in an open top bus which meant we were freezing by the time we returned to the hotel. Both exhausted we jump into our warm bed for a well earned rest.
