Yay....finally I'm allowed on the netbook - have booted Scott off! Well we've arrived in Cusco and it is certainly not a disappointment. It is everything Scott had said and more - a mix of heavy head and body and slight breathlessness from the altitude, quaint and characterful alleys with cobbled streets, women and children selling just about everything you can think of out of alpaca wool, being stopped every 10metres to be asked f you want to buy a massage- guinea pig and llama meat on the restaurant menus, amazing architecture and to top it off a truly spectacular view of the Andes! What more could you ask for from a city?...perhaps a cosy roof terrace to take it all in and read a good book and sip coca tea?...well that's just what we've got thanks to Scott's fab suggestion of staying at a hotel called Picola Locanda. We've just about finished ourselves off walking up out of the main square back to our hotel though - but I don't mind - the view makes it all worthwhile.
Hopefully tomorrow we will have acclimatised a bit more and have a more thorough explore - my trusted friend (The Lonely Planet) recommends a good walking tour and some typical Peruvian dancing in the evening. I can't wait to plan our excursions from here to Machu Picchu and following that to Puerto Maldonado in the southern Amazon - my first opportunity to experience the rainforest and jungle!
