We left Bangkok and had an 11 hour eventful journey to Phuket. The bus, filled with mossies and cockroaches stopped in a town called Surat thani where the scams commenced. Although we had already purchased a ticket to Phuket town , a salesman was trying to make us pay extra to be taken directly to our destination. Thankfully we were warned about this so didnt pay, and advised some others to keep their purses closed. The salesman kept giving evil looks to Simon and talking in Thai. He tried telling us that our bus wouldnt go the whole way and that we'd have to wait an hour extra - all of which was untrue. Crazy people!
After reading about Phuket, and hearing from other travellers that Patong was lively but resembled Malia - we headed somewhere quieter - Kata.We only stayed a few days as it was so touristy and expensive. The weather wasn't fab so we lazed in the pool quite a bit. The bars were full of Thai girls inviting us in. We went in one night and were taught a new version of Jenga by a ladyboy. The place was a little disapointing so we left two days early to Koh Phi Phi.
