We had to take a mini-bus to 1770 and Agnes Waters as the Oz bus didn't stop there. Our first night was spent exploring. The hostel (Cool Bananas) was really clean and a good place to hang out. Down the road from our hostel were some shops and the beach. We all decided to grab some fish and chips and head to the beach on our first evening. The chip shop was different to those we'd find at home - a smaller and less greasy portion with no option of salt and vinegar and served at a much slower pace. It was still yummy though. We went for a stroll on the beach but couldn't see much in the dark.
We spent our second day on the beach. Our skin was fully exfoliated by the sand being blown at us in the wind. It didn't bother me too much but Si was getting grumpy as he HATES sand so he decided to go for a walk. The beach seemed very long but we only realized how long it was when Si had not returned an hour later. Thankfully he eventually returned unharmed. After de-sanding ourselves we cooked and relaxed in the hostel drinking some goon. Hostels without bars are the only ones in which we can take our own cheap alcohol - so when we can - we do.
With no hangovers to nurse, we booked ourselves on the infamous Scooteroo tour of 1770 the next day. We were picked up in the afternoon and taken to the bike shed where we signed disclaimers and adorned ourselves with helmets and leathers. While stationary the leathers made us both pretty hot and sticky but I wasn't too confident so needed the protection the jacket offered. My jacket matched Si's helmet and bike. Simons bike had long handle bars and was black with yellow flames. Mine was much more feminine with shorter handle bars and was decorated pink with black stars. At first we rode steadily to get used to the bikes. It wasn't long before we were whizzing around the town. Simon was overtaking many people while I was falling further behind. Having not passed my driving test I wasn't as confident as others. Si kept holding back and helped me overtake a few people. At one point I decided to just go for it so I put my foot down (only about 80km). I whizzed past about ten people and realized I was going a bit too fast so tried to slow down. Sadly I couldn't slow down quick enough and ended up passing someone who was already overtaking someone else - three people in one lane and oncoming traffic ahhhh! Thankfully I only clipped my mirror and no one was injured. I quickly appreciated being slow and stuck at the back. Simon was having a great time with some friends we're travelling with. They were constantly overtaking each other. We drove all around the town and stopped to watch some kangaroos. Fortunately we all made it back alive and headed back to the hostel to unwind. 1770 was a nice relaxed town and we're pleased we made the detour.
