We hopped on our first Oz experience bus early in the morning. Keano our bus driver woke us all up with his humour and energy. The coach was pretty empty and we were all given pens to scribble on the windows with. Origanally we had planned to go to Mission beach, but we had already done the rafting so there wasn't much else to do there. On the way we stopped at a croc farm and saw loads of crocs being fed. Also spotted our first dingoes and fed some kangaroos. Before we left I held a baby croc, but Si wasn't so keen!!
We stayed at Base on Magnetic Island but had just missed the full moon party - although we doubt it could compare to Thailands party night! We spent our first evening drinking free booze!! The Oz bus provided us with some jugs and I'd earnt one by jumping off the bus and kissig some old traffic lady. We spent some time chilling in hammock (Thai hammock time is missed greatly!). On one of the days we went on the Fort walks to spot some roos. The walk led to an old army fort used to protect Townsville against the Japs in WWII. We spotted a few kangaroos - one had a baby in its pouch which was pretty cool. They've got huge claws and look pretty cute but they hardly move. They sleep for 16-20 hours a day as the leaves give them little energy! The view from the top of the Fort was good. We could see Townsville, loas of gorgeous beaches, the bush and coral spawning. Compared to some of the treks we did in Thailand it was thankfully an easy walk. Although beach by our hostel looked lovely but due to stingers in the sea we weren't allowed to swim.
