Before we arrived at Kroombit we stopped off to play some lawn bowls. We were only given one ball each so it wasn't great. I started off well but then went downhill. Simon, on the other hand, improved the more he played. I think he might even join a club when we return!
After some dodgy driving by our bus driver Brett, we arrived in Kroombit. It was a compulsory stop in the outback. Our first night was cowboy themed so I borrowed on of Simons many checked shirts. While the girls were getting ready Si was nibbling on some goat! We had some dinner before trying out some outback activities. First we learnt to crack a whip. We were shown how to do it before practicing. I perfected the technique but definitely have less wrist strength than Si who managed to make many loud cracks.
Afterwards we all had a go on the bucking bronco!I was up first and lasted a few seconds! Pretty pathetic but I'd managed to injure my thumb which became bruised and slightly swollen. Si lasted much longer but the rope between his legs wasn't comfortable! We played some drinking games and chatted before saying goodnight.
The following day we woke early and munched on breakfast. Tea, coffee and beans were all being heated on the open fire by a cowboy. We made our way to the rodeo where Si had a go at shooting clay pigeons. He shot the first one perfectly, and then missed on his consecutive goes. Then we all had a go at lassoing animal skulls. Everyone was gathered around the goat pens for the next activity. In groups of three, people had to lasso a goat, pick it up and lay it on the floor and then pretend to brand it. One team managed to lasso the goat and drag it back after it had left the enclosure. No one in Simon's team managed to catch the goat with a lasso so he decided to grab it instead. The poor goat was body slammed onto the floor!
I headed back to the ranch to do some goat mustering on horseback while Si went quad biking. I rode the boss's horse called Dancer. It was a very obedient horse unlike one horse which randomly sat down! We had to herd the goats into a field for them to eat. One little kid has lost its mum and was bleeting so much - poor thing! When I returned I barely recognized Simon who was filthy! He'd been quad biking over a third of the farm with a few other lads (and one lass who slowed them down!). He put food out for the cattle, went to a lookout point to view some of the many acres owned by the farm and also saw the bottle tree - a Queensland symbol.
