Simon & Kim's Global Adventure
Doubtless Bay was a gorgeous stop in the Northlands. We found a DOC campsite beside a perfect quiet and untouched golden beach. After exploring the beach (and writing Hayleys birthday message in the sand) we decided to stay for a few nights. Luckily the sun shone bright and the rain made only the odd appearance. Only once or twice did the autumn rain fall so hard that we had to lock ourselves in the van. In the day we munched on bbq food cooked on a small disposable bbq given to us by people we met in our first few weeks of travelling New Zealand. The sea was cold but refreshing rather than icy.
After a few days of relaxing we drove to the northern most point called Cape Reigna. There was another beach campsite that we stayed at for a few days. On one of the days camping I realised my hair was a tad 'mingin' so I decided, with Simons help, to wash it in a bucket of icy tap water. As he was rinsing the shampoo out he couldnt resist throwing a tad on me starting a mini water fight! I got my revenge when cooking and collecting a pan of water to cook pasta - it ended up all over Si!! Im sure if it was warmer I'd have been thrown in the sea!!! Whilst in Cape Reigna we made our way to the lighthouse and saw the spot where two seas meet. We were expecting something a little more dramatic than the slightly frothy small whirlpools we found.
On our way back down to Auckland we stopped at some sand dunes which were enormous!! The thought of climbing to the top was scary! We made it about half way and all we could see was sand. It was never ending. We spotted a few running down a steep sand hill and getting absolutely covered in the stuff!!
After driving past the pink sheep we camped north of Auckland for the night. Whilst cooking an elderly Kiwi gentleman came over and began to talk to us and later invited us into his caravan to chat with him and his wife. It was so lovely to meet such kind and friendly people. For our last morning of real camping we enjoyed a bacon sarnie before heading to Auckand.
