Well, we have had a busy couple of days. We spent Thursday travelling through the countryside of Nevada and Arizona. We visited Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon. We were picked up at 6:20am and out of about 35 people on our tour, there were about 20 Aussies!! We drove over Hoover Dam and stopped for a leg stretch in Kingston. We stopped in Williams and had buffet lunch at Max & Thelma's (or something like that) and drove on a bit of Route 66.
We arrived at the Grand Canyon about 1:45pm and headed out to Mathers Point on the South Rim for our first look at the Grand Canyon. Photos and video that you see just don't do justice to the sheer size of it. I know they call it the 'Grand' Canyon but it's ENORMOUS!!!
Emma and I walked the 3 miles to the last pick up spot while Tara just got the bus back. We built a snowman on the way (there was still plenty of snow on the floor) and also walked a trail part of the way into the Canyon (it's a whole day to walk to the bottom and we only had 2 hours!!)
We got back into Vegas about 10pm and we were so tired, again we crashed early! We had a lazy morning the next morning and Emma headed out for a bit of retail therapy...we met up later for dinner at Nine Fine Irishmen in New York, New York. We had Irish stew and bangers and mash and it was good food. We were told that there was a band later and they had an Irish stepdancer so we decided to keep that in mind as to what to do that night.
We went to see the fountain at the Bellagio and the Sirens of TI show at Treasure Island that was cancelled due to rain (yes, it's in the middle of the desert and we get rain!). We decided to go back to the Nine Fine Irishmen and we weren't disappointed (ok, Tara was a bit bored). The band was great and the Irish dancer was fantastic (you should have seen how small and high the board was she had to dance on)....I chatted with her later and she had just sat her teachers exam last week so we talked about dancing and teaching...
Today, we headed out and walked the full length of the strip from MGM Grand to the Stratosphere. We stopped at Circus Circus on the way up. Emma and I headed to the top of the Stratosphere while Tara gambled on the 1c pokies downstairs! We rode the 3 rides on top. One you sit out on an arm and it puts you out over the edge and then spins you round while you look down at the floor from 108 floors up!! It was pretty good. The next was the Big Shot. It flung you up and down a big pole on top of the building. You barely touched the seat!! And the last one is the rollercoaster that goes over the edge and points down to the floor...not as scary as I thought it would be!!
We caught the monorail back to MGM Grand and Emma and I headed out to see the Sirens of TI show. Again, it was cancelled...this time due to high winds...although if the wind that was barely blowing through the sails counts as high winds, I want to know what they call the winds in a hurricane!! So, we didn't get to see the Sirens of TI show!!!
Emma and I then had tickets to see the Blue Man Group. It was so much fun. Hilarious!! Tara had decided she didn't really want to go out so we bought some drinks and ice-cream back to the room and watched TV! How boring, I know but we are so tired too!! And we have to get up at 7am to leave in the morning!!
