Woke up this morning to an absolutely gorgeous day. The sun was shining and the sky and the ocean are a brilliant blue. We were up early as we had an appointment to spend the morning with a Cook Islander known as Pa. He took us for a long walk up into the mountains and talked about the medicinal qualities of various plants along the way. A very interesting character with the quirkiness of a Stan Arnold without the craziness. He had just received the Air New Zealand Tourist Award for the greatest contribution to tourism in the Cook Islands. He braids his hair in dreadlocks and wears plant leaves wrapped around his upper arms and legs. He could certainly weave an interesting tale. How much of it was true is anyone's guess. We returned around 1pm and have spent a lazy afternoon reading and I caught a quick nap. It is just so relaxing to hear the roar of the surf and the warm tropical wind rustling through the Palm trees. We did some more snorkeling and saw more fish we hadn't seen before. Next time I will take my GoPro camera to get some video. Haven't yet decided if I will go scuba diving. I will have to make my mind up soon before the holiday is over! This evening we went to a restaurant that is touted to be the best in the Rarotonga. It was very nice with good food but our hotel restaurant's food was just as good. Jean finally found a place that served sticky toffee pudding for dessert. We met a couple from Rotorua who were in Rarotonga to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary. He is a policeman in Rotorua so we had a great conversation about policing in Canada and New Zealand. There are many similarities as both have federal police forces, the difference being that NZ does not have any municipal forces as all policing is federal. We talked about the use of geothermal energy for heating and he told me the city no longer allowed new structures to be heated that way as they were worried about the impact it would have on the geothermal capacity. Another couple sitting over from us came over and introduced themselves as being from Coquitlam. I was surprised that the guy did not know where Salmon Arm was until his wife said " you know, the Shuswap". Then he clued in. Then another couple came over and introduced themselves as being from London,England. He turned out to be an FCA or as he put it, a CA with an F. He was quite comical and I think a wee bit drunk! It rained a little bit as we left the restaurant but as we got closer to our resort, it was obvious that it had not rained at all there.

Joanne We have blue sky in common with you but slightly different temperature. -12 last night and a beautiful bright moon. My idea of paradise includes crystal tropical waters and the marvels of a coral reef so the pictures you send are lovely to see. Enjoy every moment of your days there. Looking forward to welcoming you home!
