So we got to the train station at half 6 in the evening. When we got inside the station we were looking at the board to see what train it was. A guy came over and asked us what train so we told him and he said this way and started walking towards the platforms. We followed him and got to our train and he came inside and showed us to our room. We thought ah that was a helpful member of staff until he said you pay me now!! We were like what? And he said you got my help now a want paying! so we gave him a pond in Vietnam currency and said that's all we had just in case he knew guards or something and he stood there for a while wanting more but we ignored him till he went! We were sharing a cabin thankfully with 2 New Zealand people from Dunedin. They were in there 40s but we were all pleased we were with people we could talk to as some guys and girls were sharing with Vietnamese families and I think that would of been quite difficult in a room that's so tiny u can touch the person opposite you with ease! Ady was almost the length of the room so we knew he wouldn't sleep to well! They also played this awful load Vietnam opera music really loud which was annoying and the loo - well I'm not going to even go there! (You could see the train tracks through the hole in the floor and you had to try and balance while the train was moving and jerking from side to side!) I hit my head on the wall in front when the train halted to a stop in the night!
The next day we were woken at 6:00am with a guard shouting get up you get up now (not the nicest wakeup call) he was also saying something but none of us could understand so we just looked at him blankly! We then realised he thought we were getting off at a stop before Hue that's why he had gotten us out of bed but we still had another hour to go so we weren't impressed he had woken us all but we stayed awake anyway and we got about 4 hours sleep on the train!
We got off the train and started walking to the road where the guesthouses were. After an hour of saying no to people on bikes trying to get us to stay at their guesthouses (they said we could get a free lift there too) we finally found a guesthouse and stayed there and found out one of their staff had been trying to get us there, and yes the lift would of been free and I wouldn't of been moaning the whole walk about the weight of the bag and the heat! You just don't know who to trust though and normally nothing free! Hue was really nice with a river running through it and nice sculptures along the riverfront; it was a nice change from mad Hanoi! We decided to do a city tour the next day were you visit lots of emperor tombs and the citadel which is where the royal family used to live and was like a little city years ago. It was just sooo hot in the end the whole tour was just sitting in the shade drinking water as you just couldn't walk around all day in the heat. We then went on a dragon boat down the perfume river back to the city centre. It was a good all in all but quite expensive in the end as you have to pay to get in every tomb, or place of worship as well as the trip itself. We also met up with the New Zealand couple as we found a very nice hotel with a swimming pool and we enquired if you can use it and it was only $2 each all day and it had a gym for Ady! The couple (Sam and Jo) were staying here and spotted us by their pool and invited us to meet up for a drink on their balcony and we ended up going for a nice meal as well with them.
The next day we got a coach to Hoi-An which was about 3 hours away.
