So we left Hue and got the bus to Hoi-An which was only 4 hours on the bus. We ended up staying in a guesthouse which one of the bus guides told us about. It was ok but they had some building work going on which we complained about the next day as they started their work at 7 in the morning!
Hoi-An was a really nice town but had a lot of road works going so the streets were hard to walk on. We were surprised how many tailors there were in hoi an. We got told by a lot of people to get clothes made here for cheap but how do you pick one when there are 500 in a small area!! We saw some girls that we had met in Hanoi and they told us to go to one that they had, so that's how we ended up finding one to go to! We spent 3 hours the next morning looking through loads of magazines trying to find clothes we wanted made! It's hard when you haven't got anything in mind before you go, but Ady ended up picking out a 3 piece suit from the next catalogue and a shirt an d top and I picked out a suit and shirt and a dress which I drew a not so good picture of! You then pick out the material you want from a massive room of fabric and what colour you want, and then you get measured from head to toe. We were amazed that they told us to come back at 7 that evening to have a fitting with the clothes! That's how fast they make everything. We went back that evening to try everything on and surprisingly almost everything fitted perfectly! We also went to a shoe tailors opposite the clothes tailors. I printed off some pictures of shoes from an internet café which included some jimmy shoe shoes and gladiator sandals and Ady printed of some of puma trainers. They measure your feet then you pick the material, colour, sole, buckles and anything else on the shoe! I thought to myself I could do this as a job picking out material and making up shoe designs! - I think I've found my vocation! That evening we met up with Jo and Sam (the couple from the night train) for a few drinks before heading back to the guesthouse. The next day we decided to hire bicycles which cost 30p all day and go to the beach which was 20 min away. The beach was the nicest we have seen in a long time even nice than some we seen in Barbados. The sand was clean and white and the water was warm and shallow for quite a way out! The only annoying thing was all the people selling you fruit and massages and so on especially when it's every 5 minutes!
So after 2 more fittings at the tailors we had all our clothes sent back home via sea mail as it was a lot cheaper than airmail and also tried our shoes on. My shoes were all really good, they made a few adjustments on the straps but for 10 pound a pair they were great. I was really impressed with the gladiator sandals which iv kept with me but Ady's trainers didn't turn out too great as they didn't have the actual puma signs so they looked very plain, but they were fairly cheap.
We decided to book the sleeper bus to Nha Trang which is a beach resort n Vietnam. We ended up having a few problems with the bus. We were told to go to the tour agency for 7pm so we were there for quarter to 7. We then got asked to walk 2 min to a different tour agency to wait for the bus there. About 20 min later a guy came and asked us to follow him and we ended up at another tour agency! We asked what was going on and he said all the buses were full now except this one which wouldn't be there for another 45 min! We were not happy as to why it was us that kept getting moved but with the language barrier it's hard to get information sometimes so we decided to just wait for this bus. When the bus turned up it was an old sleeper bus, not the nice big blue traveller's buses we had seen all over town! It was full of local people with hammocks hanging in the aisles too! There was 9 backpackers that all got on and the only seats that were left were at the back of the bus in the boot area, which was one big bed, You have to see it to imagine what it was like but it wasn't the best! We were by the wheels so you could feel every bump, and the hot air from the exhaust and tyres made it very hot and stuffy! Luckily there was only 4 of us at the back at the bottom so we had a bit of room but then about 2 hours into the bus journey a local guy got on and came straight to the back and squeezed in between us all so it made it even worse! Our driver was a nightmare to driving really fast and beeping the very load horn every 5 seconds! We decided to take some herbal sleeping tablets, don our eye masks and ear plugs and see if we could sleep! About an hour late we still weren't asleep and the bus stopped at the side of the road for anyone that needed the toilet, and typically I really needed it! I couldn't bring myself to do it next to the bus like the other passengers, so I ran down the road a bit and went behind a kilometre rock at the side of the road - the things you have to do hey! We managed to finally get a few hours sleep before we arrived in Nha Trang!
