Tuesday the 3rd of Nov:
I have booked a simple bungalow at the Island called Koh Kradan for 4 nights. It's a very small Island South of Koh Lanta with not much to do other than gaze at the view of the beach and relax. Bought a ticket for the speed boat from Koh Lanta to Koh Kradan (1150 THB). It's a bit pricy for Thailand standards but I wasn't able to buy a ferry ticket since it's still low season and the Ferry is not operating just yet.
I was informed by the 'captain' of the speed boat that the speed boat would dock at my bungalow resort because it was a bit of a walk from the main docking area to the bungalow resort I had booked, especially carrying a suitcase (which I only have due to my back pain, unfortunately I can't carry around a big backpack). Nevertheless when we arrived at Koh Kradan the captain docked at the main area and told me that I couldn't be dropped off at my bungalow so It seemed that I had to carry the suitcase 1 km along the beach to my bungalow. Luckily I only had to carry my luggage 300 meters along the beach before one of the owners from another bungalow resort told me that I could just leave my luggage at their reception area and go get the staff from my bungalow to come and help me. They apparently had a kind of bike trolley to carry luggage to and from the bungalows. :)
Wednesday the 4th of Nov:
Woke up at 6:30am, had breakfast at one of the neighbouring bungalows 'Kalume village'. The bungalow resort I was staying at didn't really have any breakfast, low season to blame once again ;)
The day was spent reading a book and just lounging in my hammock, walking along the breach admiring the views of the nearby Islands in the horizon and just chilling.
Met a German couple (Timmo and Nicole) in their 30's who moved into the bungalow next to mine. They were going to stay for a few nights and then be off to the Island Koh Mook which is a 30-40 min boat ride in a Longtail boat from Koh Kradan.
They were also Island hopping through the South of Thailand and mainly booked 3 nights at most of the smaller Islands to experience the beaches.
I might just join them in a longtail boat to Koh Mook.
Thursday the 5th of Nov:
Had breakfast at Kalume. They have a great menu which includes both Thai food and a more western breakfast menu. I have had fresh fruit with yoghurt and musli for breakfast which is a very nice way to start off the day. It's nice to have something else than white toast or rice for breakfast ;)
Ohhh, it's sooo difficult to get use to only having cold water showers and it's not just cold, it's freezing cold ;) And the water pressure is none existing so it's a bit of a struggle to get the shampoo out of my hair. Well I'll just have to wait 2 more days for a proper hair wash, it's all a part of the Tiny Island feeling ;)
9:30pm
Listening to the rain pouring down the bungalow roof. At one point it's a calm feeling and then again a bit daunting to be in a bamboo bungalow in the pouring rain with lightning and thunderstorms raging outside. I'm praying that the holes in the roof are not big enough to let in the rain. It suddenly just turned very cold and gloomy whereas earlier it was very humid and hot.
Friday the 6th of Nov:
At 5pm it started pouring rain again just like last night. I was sitting in the doorway reading a book on my Kindle not really paying much attention to the weather. The rain and wind got too strong and I had to go inside and close the door. I placed my towel beside my window to use the outside light as a reading lamp and then my stomach started to roar. I found some peanuts in my bag and curled up on my towel in front of my window and had an indoor picnic hoping that the Chicken Flavour coated peanuts did not contain any Chilli powder, and I was lucky, they tasted a bit like BBQ flavour :)
Saturday the 7th of Nov:
Had breakfast at Kalume one last time and said goodbye to the wonderful staff.
The staff at my resort, Kradan Island resort/bungalows helped me get my luggage to the main docking area of the Island. The German couple and I bought tickets for a longtail boat at 12:30pm and around 1 hour later we arrived at the pier at Koh Mook. We then shared a tuk tuk to our hostels, the Germans stayed near the Jetty area and got dropped off first and then I was dropped off at my resort on the other side of the Island.
Koh Mook -
I finished unpacking my luggage and then went on a mission to find some lunch. I didn't go far though since I just ended up eating at the resort restaurant.
The wifi only worked at the restaurant area so whilst having lunch I wrote a message to my mum, checked FB for updates, wrote a message to Vanessa (the Canadian girl I met at Koh Lanta) on Whats app (she was spending time in Kuala Lumpur), checked my emails and had a look at my financial situation with my mobile bank app.
Then I met up with Nicole and Timmo in the evening for dinner. I hailed a tuk tuk from my resort to their hostel and on arrival they made me a piñacolada... They had bought some local rum and a can of coconut milk/creme + pineapple juice.
We went for a walk and found a great little restaurant with a really nice Thai mama cooking dinner.
When we had finished dinner and it was pitch black outside Nicole and Timmo didn't want me to go home by myself on my first night at the Island even though it was only a 15 min walk from the town. So they joined me to my resort and said goodnight. Very sweet of them :)
