Today started bright (or rather grey) and early as we hit the rails on a day trip to Liverpool...home of 'the world's greatest band'.
Got into Lime Stn. in the morning, and had some time to see some sights before hopping on the Magical Mystery tour (step right this way...). We got a true taste of extreme British weather. It seemed with every city block, a new weather pattern emerged. Sunny, grey, high winds, calm breeze, driving rain, parting clouds. We got it ALL today.
First thing I bought? An umbrella. Which promptly was overcome by the winds as we approached the Albert docks. Goodness, the Mersey is strong!
Our Magical Mystery Tour took us to all the important sites that meant something to The Beatles. Their first homes, their schools, their old stomping grounds. We also saw places mentioned in some pretty famous tunes... Strawberry Fields, Penny Lane...
The tour ended at the legendary Cavern... the place that launched the Beatles into local, and then international fame. It has been reconstructed using the original bricks and decor, and is still very much 'THE' heart of the musical scene in Liverpool, and really, all of England. Heard some great live music, and bought ALOT of Beatles wear. Once in a lifetime experience we will never forget.
We are leaving London tomorrow for Paris via the Chunnel. Another early morning, but by early afternoon, we'll be in the City of Lights, and the land of half our Canadian heritage... Belle Paris!
Make sure you see our new album of photos...
